okay guys,, dont hate me for askin...
here it goes... i was offered a trade for a 2001 ford focus ZX3, 5-speed, all power, air, 55,000 miles, zetec engine, and tinted windows... the only prob is that it was hit or sumthin in the front and the doghouse is silver instead of red, but the car is straight and perfect and drives fine.... he wants my car (89 hatchback, lowered, steerin wheel, shifter, i keep my verdicts...) and i think 2000... what do you guys think,, i've been doin some research and i think that the ZX3 could be hooked up to look and run pretty good.. give me yalls opinions.. thanx
haha, i laugh one cuz ford is stupid, i don't care what mustang goobers say, i personally think ford blows ****, replacing trannies every 90k miles or having a car die on you at 60k miles. and secondly it was hit in the front who knows whats wrong with what up there...
dude... first of all, you're talkin bout stangs,,not zx3's, which is what my post is about.. second,, i checked the car out,, i said that it drove great, and i looked it all over, jsut cause a car is hit int he front doesnt mean that it f'd up the whole motor or front end.... lastly,,,, i live in a mustang family, i sold my 96 gt for my civic... the ppl that rip out trannies are usually the stupid drivers.. "my car has som much power that i cant keep trannies in it." bullshit... if you built it up for 700 hp, put in a tranny. also,, my dad has competitivly drag raced his 85 hatchback since he baught it new, and it still has the stock t5 tranny in it,, no grinds, no problems.. it's all in how you drive and knowin how to drive... if you just have that much power.. okay, but if that is the case,, buy a better tranny, and i understand that sometiems **** happens, but that goes for fords, hondas, nissans, chevy's, any car... know what you speak of before you talk please...

i was making a point, when i spoke about the tranny dying at 90k its a common problem among expeditions. As for the 60k mile car dying it happened to my friends ford, who knows how he drove it but it happened. sounds like you've made your mind up, go with the ford

If you want to make any money on it , You had better sell the Ford Focus before the year is out . It will only be worth about $5.00 by next year. P.s. I think there must be a reason why he would want to trade his car for an 89 HB and $2000.00. Why would he not get his car fixed? I am wondering if he was having some serious problems before he crashed it. I wouldn't do it, Sounds kind of fishy

Ditto, selling cars is risky though. Never guarenteed to make $$ on it. See if he'll let you get it checked out for suspension damage or anything first. Anyone that buys it off you could ask the same and you wouldn't want suprises.

my friend works for a ford dealer and he just told me a story about a guy that just got the SVT Focus and had to bring it back for a new tranny after 500 miles. not 5,000 miles or 50,000 miles. 500 miles. thats how a lot of fords are. their trannies are almost as bad as the Eclipse tranny
some chick with an svt in my town had her tranny take a crap on her as well, it was almost brand new?? bunk. i guess just odd bad luck, i dont know...
Well i have one thing to say! GO HONDA. fords suck ***. no not just mustangs, all fords!!! And the zx3's look like **** anyway. And the civic with the verdicts is tight!
i can vouch for the FORD tranny prob too.... 33,ooo miles and i just had to put one in my babied Stang. The shop showed me the design flaws.
My REX will never let me down like that!
Dont take the risk... keep the Honda.

My buddies 95 gt's tranny went out at 60K. He dosent race, and changes the fluid when scheduled. He also reved it to (near) yellow line once, and he cracked his IM. Then, yesterday his convertable top motor went out. This is only one of my friends with a ford, I have more... Yeah, GO FORDS. THEY ROCK!!!! Ryan
hey REXER4LIFE, thanx for the props on the verdicts, it took forever for me to find the exact ones i wanted at a decent price... and dont worry, even tho i loved my 96 gt, same as you did,, i aint gonna go back to ford, honda for life... 'cept maybe that 85 coupe w the 351.....lol
Trade for the Focus, take that $2,000, along with about $3,000 more and call Tom at Precision Engine in Belmont, NC.
704 827-3944 dyno
704 827-0032 shop
His ZX3 was making 328hp at the wheels on the stock bottom end, now it makes 436hp at the wheels with low compression bottom end.
Mods:
Precision Focus turbo kit
-T3/T4 super 60 hybrid turbo
-304SS piping
-FMIC
-chip
-K&N filter
3" exhaust
Trust Profec C boost controller
Also the centerfold feature car in December 2002 Sport Compact Car (the one with the yellow 2003 Si on the cover)
So yes- a ZX3 can be "hooked up" and can also "run pretty good"

In a straight line, what about on a RR course? How would it handle, just trying to give him options and opinions about everything.

Fords quality sucks. I have a friend who had the intake manifold crack only has 80k and babied(96GT),another had a 6cyls auto trans died at 50k,engine at 70k, also My other friend worked for ford a year ago and said the focus has real reliability probs. mostly transmission on 5 speeds. He said he couldnt get one to go in gear once. This is a brand new car. If you want some doemestic speed check out a neon SRT 4 or get a muscle car
