Default possible fuel poroblems? help please

B16 hatch stock fuel just purchased FPR,but have not put it on yet wating fuel gauge.
My problem is at low rpm my car studders to get fuel. When i am drivig it just feels like not enough is getting to the engine.

-the pump is making 40psi
-new fuel filter
-new dis. cap ,and rotor
-new spark plugs
- this has been happening for awhile, but has been getting worse and worse lately, the old plugs also had signs of running lean and hot since they where kinda bumpy and frosted white.

any ideas or am I on the right track to figuring this out? and did any one else have a better running B16 after fpr? did anyone have this same problem?

thanks
Justin

Maybe your fuel pump isn't keeping up with the demands of the motor. This is my current situation with my B16 in my crx. I have an ITR fuel pump, but I guess it's day has come because right at 6300-6400 rpm the fuel pressure drops from about 45psi to below 20psi. Not good. At least I found this out on the dyno. I'm dropping in a Walbro 255 to fix the problem.

Does the fuel pump make fuel pressure in the higher RPMs? So long as the fuel pump doesnt start to lose pressure in the high RPMs it is fine.

Have you checked ign timing? I'd assume so since you changed the dist cap. (duh...answered my own question...)

Checked to see if the cam timing is ok? Make sure the timing belt hasnt jumped....

Variables...have to isolate variables here. If its running low on fuel lets look at the fueling system. Fuel pump --> fuel filter -> fuel lines ->fuel rail -> injectors -> FPR

Out of those things, you have changed the fuel filter. Obviously the fuel rail is fine. We can assume the fuel lines are ok considering you are getting fuel pressure just fine. Its likely your fuel pump is fine for the time being so long as the pressure doesnt drop at high RPMs. So we now have injectors, and FPR. Install that FPR... if that doesnt help you may need to try injectors. A good idea is for you to find out what a stock B16s fuel pressure should be. Fuel injectors will flow more or less than their rating if the fuel pressure is higher or lower. Perhaps your D15 FPR isnt giving enough pressure?

As for IGN. You've changed everything in that system except the plug wires.

Another thought is to check the ECU to see if there is a code. Is it possible that the ecu is in "limp" mode and as such is modifying the fueling charateristics?

As a side note.... I distintly remember your car running pig rich. When did that change?

As for the white spark plugs, a clogged cat can also increase EGT's dramatically. Could it be that you arent running lean, but instead are experiencing pre-ign or detonation due to a clogged cat? A clogged cat will cause horrid hesitations in the lower RPMs and mis-fire in the higher RPMs. This would go well with the whole idea that your car ran pig rich after the initial engine swap. Rich = clogged cat eventually. You also say it has been getting worse and worse lately.... Perhaps the cat is getting more and more clogged up? The worse flowing something is the easier it is to get clogged up. SO in essence a clogging cat will kill itself in an increasing rate of speed.

Just some thoughts from a bored bryan that cant sleep (its 8am sunday morning)

Burning Plastic smell coming from exaust. Could that be internals of CAT? hesitation gets worse as car warms up.

And no, there is not a plastic bag stuck on my exhaust...

When my first CAT went out, I lost power up top, not down low.

But thanks for the replies.

-not throwing codes
I am going to check timming when it stops raining.
But, what in the world could that burning smell be? Car does not run hot when it accurs, but it does accur when car is completly warmed up and it accurs quicker when i go into vtec . I am just a overly confused person, probably blowing little things (hopefully) out of place.

thanks
Justin

YES!!!!! Change it and you will be FINE!

EDIT: Dont believe me? Go unbolt your exhuast from your header, then go for a drive. Sure the car will be low on power, but I bet it doesnt misfire anymore....

ok.......,but it still does not answer my question as to why I have symptoms of running lean on my sparkplugs, of course it could be that I am running the engine hot.

Time for a overhall.

thanks guys I will keep you posted
ps. Bryan come down here hehe

I will be up the week after the 7th of August
