cam caps
I bought a p72 head from someone on ebay, when they sent it, it was missing 2 of the cam caps, one that goes on the end and hooks to the distributor, and the other next to the vtec sellanoid. The dealership does not sell cam's seperately from the complete head. I found 2 that my friend had laying around, but he said that I can't use them without having them machined on??? they fit flush, but he said that you have to use only the ones that came with the head? does anyone know about this?
Leaks should be your last concern. You have to use the caps that came with the head because the bores were machined together. Worst case scenario with not using matching caps is that your cams bind. I'm sure you know what happens next...
Plastigauge the clearances as the Helm's specifies. If they're not too loose, have the cam bores align honed. If they're out of spec, you're probably screwed. For anyone else contemplating an "ebay" head, make sure it comes with caps.
