Default Need to press in syncro hubs? And a fitment question

Is it really necessary to press in the syncro hubs? I am putting in a Quaife and the countershaft came apart and I feel a little evil ignoring the Helms.
Also- is this improper fitment for the bearing on the end of the countershaft (on the left)? Is it supposed to be flush with the end of the shaft? If it is I suppose pressing in the syncro hubs will do the trick?

Thanks
Ben
