Umm...Going from 5th to 2nd pretty harsh, don't you think? I tend to think that if I were to down shift my GSR from 5th to 2nd while driving at a good clip I'd bust something up too. I'm sure the new motor is just fine and reliable if you don't pull stupid **** like that.

i forgot to mention that all the blown rsxs have been the result of a down shift......
the new shifter set up uses spring loaded gates and cable set up for easier smoother shifting, the downside is that with the adrenalin pumping and ur arm flexed solid somebody will make that mistake whether it be a stupid *** or a knowledgeable driver....... those rides aren't ment to be driven like a type r or gsr.......
oh yea, the type s is the only one blowin up...... its a pretty big deal around the acura dealers in the gta.....

Apparently this is a pretty widespread problem with the 6 speed gearbox, either that or there are a lot of bad drivers out there. We had the same things happen at both our dealers here.
Ive heard of a couple cases here in Phoenix as well. The problem is that people arent used to the 6 speed transmissions and they downshift to 2nd gear alot.
The same problem happened with the Celica GT-S 6 speed.

we can't say a thing, but its been hapening alot lately; anybody ever see the motor apart????..... we even got a memo from honda canada telling us not to hit the redline on p.d.i.s until after the break in period.........
when i was doing p.d.i.s on the type r last month i made sure the fuel cut off worked......... hehehe

What speed were they doing in 5th when this happened? With such a smooth transmission like the rsx has I can't imagine what type of hamfisted person could mis a shift in that car.
It's all DRIVER ERROR
the people blowing this engines are screwing up their shifts. Mis-shifts and blown engines have been a huge problem for Celica GTS, and it's all due to DRIVER ERROR... and for those who say they've driven stick for xxxx years, well, still doesn't matter, they obviously don't know how to drive a SIX speed
the GTS shifter has shorter throws and a closer gate than the RSX Type S. so there shouldn't be as many mis-shifts happening. But we'll see...........

Well It's gonna be a big problem with this new 6 speed shifter... Even on the ITR all the stories about bented valves was caused by shifting from 5th to 2nd!!!
I still own my R but I'll be trading it shortly for a RSX-S! When I test drove the RSX I did one bad shift going from 3rd to 2nd instead of going into 4th! At least, when I did let go the clutch I saw the rpm going up way too fast, so I've pushed down the clutch and no harm was done...
Acura is already aware of this problem... I've talked to the owner of the Acura dealership and he said that when he went to the RSX's kickoff in Vancouver, Honda warned them about it!!!
Is that a real problem??? I don't know... It's for sure an easy mistake to make!!!
Specialy with this new 6 speed gearbox!
Just my .02$

I think you all need to drive one before you say how stupid people are (because if you haven't, you dont' have an opinion). The left-to-right distance between gears, especially between 3rd and 5th (and 2nd and fourth repectively) is VERY close. I could find 5th at all when I was driving (I just about missed it everytime) and I can drive very well. It take getting used to. I think it's just because there is less feel of tghe notches that makes you unsure about the gear slot.
where is this dealer located...???
that is pretty scarey news...were these customers cars or dealer cars???
Maybe honda hasn't quite tested the RSX yet...so for them it's cheaper to get the product out, get all the money it can, and keep reports of blown engines on the DL... and it is also cheaper to fly down execs and engineers from Japan to the USA...
can i assume that mechanics and service managers and salesmans are screwing around with peoples Preludes, ITR's and S2k's...well i know that this is what you guys do...??? that sucks for some people...
many customers dream of driving a Prelude or ITR or s2k but can't because they don't have the money for it and some lucky stiffs that work for the dealers get to test drive new and customer's cars just because they work there, and they themselves cannot even afford car's that are on the lot or cars that their customers own!!! That bites!!! This is part of the reason i do all my own auto work except for the real hard stuff...

new rsx or mustang or what ever if u downshift from 5th to 2nd and over rev yer motor there will be a decent sized problem
impossible to see 000000 on the odometer. they have to drive it at the bare minimum on and off the truck and onto the freighter to get it out of japan, and then again when it hits our shores. Besides, Honda runs all their engines for several hours before even installing them into the cars.
my teg had 6 miles on it when they took it off the truck. it had 8 when i drove it home. (2 miles for inspection). I bought it the day it showed up at the dealership.

I guess they forgot to reset mine cause it had 26 miles and it was still completely wrapped in all the plastic stuff. Damn i wish it was still like that
I hope this doesn't mean that people are gonna start biatching about the RSX blaming it on the car itself when it is ALL driver error...like what they did with the GTS, blame it on the car (well some people at least).
What in Gods name are you doing down shift to 2nd form 5th with out brakeing some first? I can see that with some major braking but hte read line on an RSX isn't that of a Type R. But I wouldn't do that in a Type R either. I really need to get an S4.
I imagine they were attempting to downshift into fourth and instead found second. I noticed that when I drove an RSX-S - the shifter had a much different feel than my Integra. I kept hitting fourth instead of sixth on the interstate. Luckily I wasn't going fast enough to cause any harm, else I would have had a pissed-off salesman on my hands!!
I think it will take folks time to get used to the six-speed. If they're not careful at first - BOOM!
