Default Do you have to pull tranny with the block

I have to pull my block out and take it to a machine shop to have some helicoils installed in it cause the stock threads got stripped and I lifted the head. I really dont want to go throw the hassle of pulling the axles out and all that stuff. If I pull the half shaft out the motor along with the crank pulley and alternator will that give me enought clearance to get the block out. I just dont want to mess with the axles. Thanks guys!!

no u dont..but if u have the ac braket..take that out..its easier to work w. if its out..take out the alternator too..but the crank pulley should be fine on there..the only prob i see come to think of it..is the tranny imputshaft that goes into the clutch disc..u have to kinda slide the engine over the right to clear it...i say just take out the whole thing..its alot easier that way..up to u i guess...gl

With the time you waste just pulling the block...You can drop everything out and inspect everything...Replace mounts...and so on...Take 45min with power tools to drop everything out...

It would be much easier to take the shortblock and tranny out together, I don't think you have room to slide the tranny input shaft out. But you can cut corners by not removing the driveshafts entirely. Just leave the front forks bolted on, actually you can havbe the whole front suspension bolted together, pop the driveshafts out of the tranny and pull them outwards until the inner joint gets to the fork. The intermediate shaft might have to be removed but it should be smooth sailing after that.

Axles are much easier to deal with. Removing the axles takes 30 minutes. I always take them out and get them outta the way so there's plenty of room to move around underneath the car.

You can remove only the engine if you want, but you won't like it when you have to put the engine back onto the tranny in the car, instead of vice versa, or simply hoisting it up as one unit.

Drop the engine and tranny through the bottom onto a dolly since you've already got the head off.

we pulled the entire thing earlier (axles tranny and block). We are taking the block to get the helicoils installed on monday and hopefully by the end of the week ill be boosting again. . We are gonn assemble the motor out of the car and drop the whole thing in at one time. Only things that sucks is that my harness is soldered so we cant do teh harness out of the car. Wont be to bad though. Wish me luck guys.
