Default H22A into ef hatchback? Work?

My buddy is about ready to put out the dough to install an H22A into the 91 Civic hatch he is about to purchase. The only thing is that he is set on an h22 and will not listen to anyone who tries to change his mind. The one thing is the person installing the motor told him it is basically a drop in swap and he is charging him 300 bucks to do it. Is it this easy and shouldn't it be a little more than just a drop in? Another friend of mine...TIMMAY, said you have to cut a whole bunch of stuff and make custom mounts or something like that. One last thing he has his mind set on Air Bags also, would they hold up the heavy motor.

Man, tell your friend to do his homework before he goes "dropping in a H22". As far as paying someone $300 to do a H22 swap in an EF...well you get what you pay for and it sounds like Mr. $300 H22 swapper has no clue what he is talking about. Tell your friend if he is dead set on an H22'd EF, then do his homework, H22 swap is not like "slapping in a B series".

It is by no means just a simple drop ion. There's a lot of fab work. for 300 dollars for the intall is a steal however. Just make sure the guy doing it has done it before. You don't want to be the test subject. BTW air bags would hold up fine but stay away from them

I think the h22/ef hatch is a wonderfull idea....but I agree with ^^^^^^....300 bucks is almost too reasonable....you need to:
remove the old sohc
cut out the old stock mounts
cut a 5-7" chunk out of the passenger side frame rail
weld in new custom fabricated mount housings
the wirng harness...if a Dx you need to wire it like an Si..(its a bitch)
fabricate a new custom front crossmember or buy one
need a new radiator...half panel...I used a 2000 Si rad.
test fit the engine..if its not right...start over
final weld the mounts in...prime them and paint
drop in engine and hook up the shift linkage, shifter cables
need to get a cable to hydro actuator
need to re route the battery ti the hatch..or if a Tiny batt...custom mount it.

and there is alot of other things to do....sounds like $300 guy has a huge job on his hands....I would trust him only if he has done this before....but if done right..he will own!

K, I am not one to know anything about Honda's cuz I drive a Mitsubishi and I work at a Honda dealership, but the whole h22a into an ef sounds like a whole lot work. The kid who is installing it did a 91 Integra LS motor into a 97 Civic and had the wiring done by Sage in Logan. I personally don't wanna be a dick if the person installing the motor reads this post but he really has no clue on how hard this swap really is. He may have some knowledge but not enough to do one of the most difficult swaps out there. I need more comments though please. What are your thoughts on $300 for the install.

$300 is a steal for that, but it almost sounds too good to be true

maybe he thinks it's a newer civic or something where they do actually bolt in.. cuz the work involved in putting that into an ED is a little bit more than that. A B16 swap is usually anywhere from 500-1500 for that - no way would an H22 be less

this is an easy swap compared to the h22

Maybe he should and he'd learn a little.

Thanks for all the comments, but what should my friend do instead of the average b16a swap. He wants to be all show some go. he has a full wide body and 19's to throw onto the car. he also is going to have 4 12's and full interior custom done. carbon fiber everthing possible also. He wants one of those Super Street show cars. I dunno, it's not me so I want more feedback.

If you are his true friend...you will tell him to ditch the 19s for 15s or 16s......

A b16 is cool..you can help him do the swap yourselves.
