That is ****** HIGH as hell. Should be like 1700 at most for some body work, body kit and the whole car.

My friend painted her PT with full airbrushed flames, frenched in 59 caddy tailights, and full shave and it cost her $3500. Just a comparison.

No 2 paint shops are alike when it come to paint, labor, time lines, custom work, and especially price.

do some research but remember u get what u pay for. i work in a body shop and it pays to know people in the business because most of the time you can get some of the body men to do the work on the side and its not nearly as expensive. Might take a little longer because its work in their spare time and they wont screw you because they are making straight profit except for the cost of paint, etc.

it depends on a LOT of things. some people get complete paint jobs for 500 bucks, while others pay $3k. depends on the skill of the bodyman, quality of materials used (filler, primer, paint), and the quality of work (how good was the taping job, what was taken off to paint, etc).

No 3k is high to paint a car, and body kit. Dude didnt even say anything about body work. That **** better be painted in 24k gold and sanded with $100 bills for 3k. IMHO.

seems like $3k for a paint job would include body work too.

when it comes to painting a car....you get what you pay for...if you pay $500 for a MAACO paint job....your car is going to look like crap and look like a florida orange...and he did say that it was the best paint shop in his area....

$300 From Maaco... No drips, no Orange Peel. No Runs. That price sounds good if they are the best in your area.

The price is going to depend on how much they prep the car. If you want just a cheap tape job done to your car with the bumpers and everything painted on the car then your looking at around 1300-2000. If you want it done the right way where the window trim, side moldings, headlights, tail lights, bumpers, sideskirts, mirrors, etc are removed and painted seperately, then your looking at about 2500-3500 to get the car sprayed.

And about Maaco, i have seen some extremely good looking paint jobs come out of that place for under $500. The key to most of those jobs is the owner did the prep work on the car before it was brought into the shop. Biggest issue i see with Maaco is that they just tape everything up so over spray is on everything. Then again, Maaco is a franchise so you just have to check out the quality of work that the Maaco in your area produces.

Wow, looks like you've been very fortunate with Maaco!

my paint on my car was 2200 and that was for full tri-stage paint (base, clear, metallic) and that was including putting on a new radiator support minor dings and 100% complete rapaint of the car (exterior, interior, engine bay) but i stripped the car down myself.

Make them give you a set price, $2500 to $3500 is a big difference. Did you get a estimate over the phone?
Personally I wouldent pay more than $1000. Paint and materials should only be around $400-$500, the rest is profit labor etc.

That price is High as fawk!
I will not leave my car unless I have great references, or have no weird feeling in my stomach about leaving my vehicle.
Lastly, there better be a printed quote of what they are doing for me and exactly what the total amount will be, none of that mystery bullshit so I can come back and they give me some rediculous total.

My paint job, and body kit install was in that range. I also had moldings, emblems, hood squirters shaved. It is show quality though. U definitely get what you pay for when it comes to paint.

I paid $1500 when i got my MR2 painted. I got a color change, the guy sprayed under the hood, door jambs, shaved my rear wing, and fixed all dents. Everything was done and the paint looked really good. I would shop around a little more

How he's not going to give you the exact price until its done. he should quote you before he even starts. anyways i wouldnt pay no more then 1500-2000 for a factory paint, plus its a del sol and it doesnt need much paint.

Umm do you know how labor intensive it is to paint an entire car? Also I wonder if he is getting the entire frame painted or just the outside. Cause then they would have to strip the car and take out the engine.

Anyone have any ideas about how much a color change would run if the car is already stripped completely (aside from whatever is necessary to get the car towed to the shop)??

I figured the labor to pull parts would be the most expensive thing....

Anyone stripped the car themselves and gotten it painted? Tom (B18C5-EH2)?? Did you paint your shell yourself?

Steve

If i were you i would try and find someone that does it one the side, but has a good rep, then check out some of the stuff they have done. My friend got his 95 hatch painted with 5 coats paint, and like 3 or 4 clear. They stripped it out then painted the frame and all the body, they also shaved his moldings, and tailights, he had this done for just under 1000$. Look around and you can find a good deal.
