i know a manual tranny has an advantage over a auto tranny from start to go...but while you're tryin to be 'fast and the furious' on the freeway, does it make a difference if it's auto or manual? ie... (5-speed) 95 civic vs 98 accord (auto, 4 cyclinder)? what about the Accord vs a 98 integra GS (5-speed) ?

accords, integras, civics all max out around 140mph. so i figure top speed doesn't make a difference (correct me if i'm wrong) and if all cars are going 70mph and and everybody downshifts at the same time shouldn't the car with the largest engine and most hp accelerate the quickest even though it has a automatic tranny?
Are you trying to give me a hard time!
Anyway, yes a manual has an advantage. You should get better times if you can drive one. Just to give you an idea on what the gearing is like in an auto look at what my car does. 1st-46mph / 2nd-84mph / 3rd-122mph /4th-145mph(no chance to go any higher yet)
The advantage that the manual has is one of the reason I am building my car as an auto. It is fun to beat someone with one. Plus, I think my car having an H22, nitrous, and the newly purchased turbo, will take away anyones percieved advantage.

um yea, weight difference... but an accord's engine is .5 larger + 10hp greater than the integra, so the 600 lbs (so wat). as far as drivetrain loss... a tenth of a second on the freeway, dats a couple iches. but the thing is accords push more torque and horses at lower RPMs while u gotta rev all the way to 7 on a integra.
Big James....having an auto in a hybrid and beating a stick doesnt really embarrass the other driver...it just means that you have a better car. racing with an auto doesnt require any skill, but being able to race with stick takes some skill, from launching to quick shifting, etc..

yea i feel u big james.... when people are checkin out ur car, and they c its a auto, they're gonna start talkin **** rite away... autos are slow, they for grandmas... blah blah blah... then u ask them if they want 2 race... they say yea... u smoke em.... its all good
with the same specs..a manual would beat an auto, no doubt about it...i mean, its cool to race with an auto and beat a stick, but there isnt any real skill involved...everyone says that the outcome of a race is mostly dependant upon the driver and his skills, but in an auto...where are the skills??!?!?!?

yea...same specs & car, but only by a couple tenths cuz of driveline loss. driver/skillz...depends upon how close the cars match up. jus cuz sum1 drives a stick don't mean he got more skills den sum1 who drives a automatic.
