HELP: ignition timing
okay, i just did whole bunch of research and it's confusing the hell out of me. currently i own 98 b18c (obdII). i just did a ignition timing and my car is lined up with red line. i read haynes manual & came with pretty much nothing, but they did had diagram showning crank pulley is line up with red line, also shown white line is TDC. so i went over to inlinefour asked someone, where i should line up and he told me i should line up with white line. by then i was so confused, i called up acura service, and he was telling me try both. hahaha anyhow would please someone correct me.
Dude, it depends on your timing gun. If it is NON adjustable, you can only check to see if your timing is within spec. (use one of the 3 timing marks) If your gun is adjustable (It will have a dial), use the white TDC mark and you read the dial on the gun to determine what your timing is at.
the lines are like this
front of car----> to firewall on the pulley.
white-red-white-space of no marks--white
! ! !-----------!
white/red/white(all timing marks)---------Last white line is tdc.
make sure it is somewhere in the group of three, 18 deg,16 deg, 14deg (I believe the specs are correct)

or if you need more ignition timing you can use the TDC mark and use an adjustable timing light.

correct me if im wrong, but doesn' t the computer reset the timing to factory specs even if you try and advance it at all. So once you get the timing marks lined up, when you start the car, it will time itself.
Is this correct?

You need to jumper the ECU with a paperclip when adjusting your timming to prevent this.

........ and it depends what year (obd?) you have. I know a friend that had a 2000 Si advanced his timing to 18', later after hooking up a diagnostic computer to it, it backed off the timing to 16'.
