Chip in car keys
Apparently, there is a chip in the car keys for a 6th Gen. Didn't know that until today. My mom used the spare key when she was going to make a run to the store, and my car didn't start. Car was towed this morning, and the guys at V.I.P. Honda asked if we have a spare key, and we said that we did. They reprogrammed the chip, and it started up. My thought is that they messed up that key somehow when they were reprogramming my remotes. Funny how that happened the day after I got my car back from them when they sent my radio to Honda.
You don't program the keys, you program the car to accept whatever keys & remotes you have. I bet they didn't have the spare key when they 'reprogrammed' your remotes. When they do anything like that, you gotta give em ALL the keys.

But I thought if you had the code, you could go in, tell them the code, and they'll come back with a set of keys (after 30 minutes of labor or so)? Maybe it can be done both ways?
But anyway yes, the keys have chips in them. If you have a key with a gray rubber piece on it, that is a valet key and will only work in the doors and ignition (that is, it won't work on the trunk and, I believe, the entrance to the trunk through the back seat or the lock next to the switch for the gas cap / remote trunk opener (the little lever next to the driver's seat)).

The code # lets them cut the physical key, so it works the lock cylinders. The immobilizer chip is a separate deal, that's what I was talking about.
Even the valet key has an immobilizer chip, otherwise the engine wouldn't start.
