Overheated d16..have head machined or just buy a remanufatured head?
Well chapter 2 in my repairs to my 92 si: Head is now off and I know that its probably warped some since it overheated and blew the head gasket. I have never dealt with a machine shop so I have no clue whats involved pricewise when fixing a head. I found an HT advertiser that will send me a rebuilt head and felpro gasket for $391 shipped. Also, if I decided to take my head to a machine shop, would I need to remove all of the valve train etc before they can machine it? Is it safe to reuse my old head bolts?
What would you guys do?

You can purchase an entire engine for 300!!!!

You are right about the engine prices. I am considering looking for a head from a reputable HT member. I just want to make sure that whatever I get is going to work and hold up for more than 200 miles. So if anyone has a GOOD d16z6 or compatable head, hit me up and we can talk.
look around in the classifieds. im sure you can run into a z6 head that has been worked (p&p, 3 angle...) for a few hundred. i have a z6 head with 130,xxx miles on it sittin in my basement- its not complete but if u want more info pm me on here.
It's not a big deal, take the head to reputable machine shop, get them to resurface the head.....You might have to take out the cam and cam caps...They shouldn't charge you more than 100$....For the price of a reman head...you could shave the head and buy a adjustable cam gear and have money left over for beer
