Default ATTN: Stereo Installers - Stereo Removal Question

My GFs brother just traded in his 1996 or 1997 Pontiac Grand Am and since he didn't install the stereo (and doesn't know dick about stereos) I got asked to pull out his head unit and re-install the stock ****.

So my question is what do I need to do to get it out (Never looked closely at the dash) and what tools will be required?

I am asking because the car is an hour away and when I go I want to be ready instead of needing to inspect it first.

Thanks,
Drew

It's a pretty easy yank it out process. All I needed was a screwdriver to remove the outer panel and then pull it out.

some of the newer H/us have lock releases that need to be hit in order to get the head out. That will be in the manual as to where they are, If you are re-connecting the stock you need crimps a crimper wire cutters, all that crap. I'f your lucky there will be a wireing harness. Usually there is a plastic peice around the outside that frames the display, just pop it off, and you will see the metal caging that it fits in, depending upon the brand the releases are on the border between the metal frame the h/u sits in and the h/u. Good luck.
