Long Day...
Well, yesterday was a very long day, but it ended with a blue civic shell in front of the house!
- left Haymarket at 5:00am tuesday with 4 hours sleep in me (ah, the joys of parenthood
)
- got to Road Atlanta at 2:00pm after stopping for lunch at Hooters.
- got junk at the RA pro-shop for aforementioned kids.
- got car, hit the road at 4:30pm
- got back to Haymarket at 2:00am, after stopping for dinner at (a different) Hooters.
can't go south without eating at Hooters.
- get up at 6:00am to get ready and go to work.
all in all a pretty nice trip, and I have found out:
- it is possible to go to atlanta and back the same day (Zyg had already proven that, apparently, but I'll re-iterate)
- uncle Catch is a NICE GUY, with good taste in trucks.
- a french/texas accent is attractive to local Georgian gas station girls (and old ladies) who think you are from Nebraska.
- it is not a good idea to lift the throttle while passing a semi, downhill, at any speed over 80mph while towing... I'm gonna have to either slow down, or figure out a way to reduce the sway - it gets scary when the trailer starts to sway from side to side in an UNDERdamped oscillation...
- maneuvering a truck with a trailer attached in reverse to get out of a parking lot sucks.
much thanks to Corey for the trailer, and Scott for driving up to Road Atlanta to get me the car. Much appreciated.
And now, the work will begin. I think I may buy a digital camera so I can document the work to make the car into a race-ready little hatch. This will be the official start of Mad Frog Racing. Anybody know a graphic artist? I need a logo. Oh yeah, and a cheap, running D15B2, preferably with the tranny still attached.

Redundant statement, unless you mean the running part...
d15s get no love, and as a result, you could probably find one that someone would be willing to pay YOU to take it off their hands.
Welcome to the world of the lo-cost.

If the sound deadening material is still on the floor, use the dry ice method to remove it. I did it in a CRX with the hot method, and it sucked. Took me min 25-30 hours just to get every bit of it out. With dry ice, that woulda been........ Oh, 2 hours or so.
Here's a link to the hot method>> http://public.fotki.com/GoKart...pdown/
Congrats!!!

Congrats!!!
thanks Shortbus, but the car was a running ITC car before its engine was removed, so all the stripping is already done
Now, all I have left is the easy part!
thanks for the tip though.
Gregg, you'll have PM in about 2 minutes...

I think slowing down would be the safer option. Dunno about the rest of the gang, but I limit myself to about 60-65mph in the hills.
Congrats on the new car. It'll be fun.

you know it! and the GS-R IS for pre-sale. I'll take deposit with a delivery on 8/16, contingent, of course, on me not balling up the car at the FATT on 8/15...

I will admit to less-than-ideal judgement yesterday after driving all day with limited sleep the night before. You are correct that drafting empty semis as they barrel up and down the hills at night might not have been the best idea - in retrospect, anyway.
and I intend to have a blast both driving and building the civic, especially since most of the dirty work has already been done, and I am getting incredible support from the good folks on this board - and they all know who they are.

the B2 is for ITA. After talking with Scott, and reading the GCR, I will either campaign the car in G-prod or ITA (most likely in G-prod) and of course in H5 at Summit. If funds allow, I'll travel to other HC venues.
See... I told you there were benefits to racing the "love less."
Welcome to the world of free motors and trannys. Cheap body panels too.
Scott, daring you to find a free motor/tranny for a GSR. Try finding a $10 fender while you're at it.

You might find that car placement has as much to do w/ the oscillations as speed or other things. It seems the further back my car is on the trailer, the more it wants to slosh to and fro, the further forward, the more it wants to float up and down (like blown shocks).
BTW, congratulations on the car, the cage and tub-prep should go a long way towards whichever direction you are headed.
