i just got my used jdm recaros yesterday thanks to http://www.aj-racing.com and http://www.jdmshop.com.
i used to have a recaro sr3, which is a newer version of the srd. some people are going to argue with me, but i've been in an srd and the sr3 IS NOT THE SAME.
the jdm recaros i have in right now has the exact same fabric as the stock usdm seats. no difference at all.
in comparison to my sr3:
- shoulder bolstering on jdm seat is narrower
- thigh bolsters are slighty wider spaced
- more cushioning in the bottom seat pad
cloth recaros just don't compare. the cloth used to attract so much dust and dirt no matter how much i vaccumed. jdm/usdm seat fake suede/alcantara grips so much better and just plain feels nice. i am expecting wear in the bolsters from regular use, but the cloth didn't fare any better as it turned fuzzy in high use areas.
and i do like the fabric-covered belt guide. it dosen't hurt as much when i bonk my head on it.
and the jdm recaro with the factory mounting hardware sits at the same height as the stock usdm seat, if not slightly lower.
and yes, i did feel the premium i paid over a normal recaro was worth it.
that's all folks. just my $0.54cdn

it depends on your physical size. for me, i find myself not missing the lumbar support.
Congrats on the seats, Ben!
I have the same seats in my Aussie Type R (they're standard here) and they are VERY comfortable. The back support is actually pretty good. Best seats I've ever had, and the first thing everyone compliments when they sit in my R!

I made the mistake of buying the Recaro SRD's w/ cloth fabric and not the JDM SRD II's. Do any of u know if it is possible to buy the JDM OE fabric from the ITR/CTR seats and have my seats reupholstered? Because I do notice what Ben is saying, in that the cloth seats do fuzz-up in high wear areas and do attract an immense amount of dirt.

yes i think u can buy the fabric, but i think it's a custom order thing from recaro. i vaguely recall reading about it somewhere on their website. the next step is to find a reputable reupholsterer who can do quality work to recover it.
alright..thanx alot.
btw..do u do alot of business with aj racing???? I just bought a **** load of spoon stuff from them..
they r good guys. its hard to find many honest vendors in the toronto area; and i thought there was potential for a hard time if i got caught with some bad guys..but Alan at AJ has been very nice.
another question...is ur ITR the one on their site????

i bought the seats for $2kusd shipped to canada. price is subject to availablity though. seats were in astounding condition depsite being used. and amazingly enough these seats were non-smokers, a rarity in japan, although they do have a slightly musty smell to them, most likely due to the fact they may have been sitting at a wrecking yard for some time. i hope to air them out somehow.
http://www.jdmshop.com treated me pretty well, despite a massive screwup by a shipping company that resulted in me waiting for over a month. but it turned out okay.
but i was promised seat rails and i only got one set. still trying to sort that out. in the meantime only the driver's side is in.
i'm very happy
as for a&j yeah i'm a regular there. generally a good place to go although there have a a few screwups that everyone seems to remember or really blow out of proportion. if alan gives u a rough time lemme know and i'll personally give him hell for u

Are those your seats sitting at A&J then? 1 ITR and 1 Recaro. I was tempted to sit in the Recaro seat, but Ben said it belonged to someone so I refrained
