Default Passing inspection with a Canadian Type R in the U.S.

Is this a pain in the *** thing that isn't worth the money. I mean I could get a canadian R b/c I work with a woman whos canadian and has a canadian address. So that part is out of the way. What about changing the speedo and what not. Do the pros outway the cons. Please respond b/c insurance check arrives in two weeks so I have to make a decision on a car. Any input will be helpful. Thanks

For a daily driver in the bronx, insurance for me a month would be more than my car payment. Can you say 10 points on license as we speak. 1 point away from suspension.

Mario, everyone seems to think you have unlimited funds. Buy a Z06, buy an S4, etc. If you do get a Canadian R leave the speedo alone. All you have to do is get it NYS smog checked and registered after all the tarrifs and state tax have been paid.

I heard something about the head lights and other safety features. Is this true or false. If its just the speedo then worth it.

High beams run at 1/2 power during the day. Standard day time running lamps. On all Canadian Integras. Other than that I think the only differences are the color and interior. CW w/red seats.

Speedo should be fine... Kilometers and miles are there! Miles in smaller prints but they are there! As for safety features, it's true that the headlights are running at 1/2 the power during daytime(lights turned off)! For the rest, I just don't have a clue about the difference between canadian and US regulation...

Hope I could help...

BTW, If you decide to cross the border to shop around... I'll be glad to sell you my 00' PY ITR for 19K!

The Canadian Type R should pass inspection without any modifications.

Another cool difference is that the tail lights have a cool clear spot where the '94-97 US ones have amber. I like it.

NewYorkTypeR,
i have a friend and he is on the board so i will let him speak for himself, but he has an 01 CDM CW R and he has the car in Baltimore all the time near where we both go to school, he has had no problem with emmisions, and he frequently comes to Jersey

.....he has not changed the speedo or anything else on the car, i think its your best bet.....because as Nicholas Cage says in Gone in 60 sec about Elenor, a CW is a Unicorn and i would go outta my way to get one, except i am broke, so i will settle for my LSR......his name on the board is SwerveAM and that is also his aol name...talk to him he would be happy to help you out with any questions...

H-PIMP....whats up kid!!!! Heard you might bring the boost monster out to Jersey to chill with Evil, me and the rest of the GSM crew.....hope to see you this weekend, email me sometime... dallan@loyola.edu

hope this helps...

I wonder how much those red seats cost from the dealership.

I've got me a CDM 98 CW Integra, but I live in Canada so I don't know how much help I will be.
As far as I recall they only differences are:
daytime running lights
speedo
and we get different shift ***** here, don't we?

I remember from a previous thread that there was a dealership in Ontario that still had 8 or 9 new R's left. Here is the link

(i hope that worked)

BTW, when you go for emissions testing, make sure your car's engine is nice and hot when it's tested. If the testing place is near your house, go for a drive first. They burn cleaner when they're warmed up.

Mario,
Are you getting an outstanding deal? If not, Matt (el pollo diablo) is selling his Type R. Send him an IM.

Well the R in canada is white which is what I always wanted, plus the red recaros. The guy said 31500CDN which, if I did the math right, comes out to a little over 20usd. Not bad. Just need to find a garage.

They're not red recaros, they're exactly the same as the previous years seats but now they use a red fabric instead of black.
