93 LX cranks but won't start, probably no spark
Hiya guys, I hope I have the right area. I'm an Accord owner but I'm trying to help out the family Civic.
The Civic (manual, LX CDN) would occasionally refuse to start, or it would stall out while driving and then refuse to restart for several minutes. Finally one day (I bugged them to get it looked at, but you know family...) the car refused to start altogether. It cranks but won't start.
Right now, the car will crank but it won't start. I replaced the main relay and the fuel filter, and the plugs smelled of gas so fuel delivery seems to be good. Previously, I held a screwdriver in a plug boot and held the screwdriver over a ground and I saw arcs. I swear I did! Now I don't see any arcing at all. I'm going to try a plug out of the block next to look for spark. I replaced the wires, plugs and the dist cap/rotor while trying to fix it. The grounds around the area look fairly decent. All the fuses look fine, including the ECU and backup fuses.
From searching and such, it sounds like either the igniter coil or the igniter or both may be bad. Any help would be greatly appreciated, especially on how to test those two. Can they be tested at automotive stores?
The tl;dr: Car will crank but won't start, used to stall and wouldn't restart for several minutes. Replaced fuel filter, main relay, plugs, plug wires, and dist cap/rotor. Is it likely the igniter/coil?

I had something like tht with my car. Ended up being the disrtibutor. I would say that you are on the right track. Just make sure you have stuff tested before you replace it. Things get real expensive if you don't.
