lug nut tech....need help
hey i figured the road racing guys should know this...i wanna know if lugnuts can change the way your car handles, specifically at higher 60mph+ speeds...ok here's some background info:
previous setup:
les schwab "performance" 195/50/15 tires (forgot which brand, but its not a big name) in front, very used-up dunlop 195/50/15 fm901's in the rear, and flat-faced lugnuts.
i wore down the rear tires away from home, so i had to purchase new les schwab ones, the same exact brand and size of that on the front. while my tires were being put on, one of the guys working there came in and told me that i didn't have stock honda lugnuts because they were flat on the end facing the inside of the car. since some of them were rusted, i decided to buy a new set of lugnuts, the 'stock' ones. he told me that the 'stock' lugnuts were tapered to "secure the wheel to the car". anyway, long story short, after i got those lugnuts and swapped the back tires, my car handles a little softer than before with more noticable body roll...
my question is, does the lugnuts have anything to do my handling?

Nope. And FWIW, OE honda lugs are acorn-style not tapered.

Well, they can, but you usually hear a loud scraping noise as the car pulls to one side. You may also see courseworkers running away from the wheel that's flying toward them.

"Honda and Acura lug nuts have a ball seat."
What he said. Use factory nuts with factory wheels and aftermarket with aftermarket. If you have aftermarket wheels, keep a set of factory nuts to use with the spare.

I think you guys are saying the same thing. Ball-seat... Acorn-seat. They both have a spherical contact area where aftermarket wheels require a conical seat.
As far as the handling, sounds like the new tires might need to be broken in. As far as body roll goes, there should be any difference when changing tires. Must be a perception thing.
