when setting a hp goal like 300whp... a few questions about turbo choice
would it be better to chose a turbo that is larger (like a t3/60-1) and has room for more power, (even tho you will never make that much power )
or to choose a turbo that maxes out exactly at 300whp. or just slightly above.

t3/60-1 is a good choice for 300whp... You'll have a easier time achieving that power with a t3/60-1. Besides boost is so addictive you can't say 300whp is all you want. You will want more later, trust me.
Im well aware. I boosted my teg last summer. Keeping this alive for more opinion and some technical insight im lacking.
i would go with a larger turbo for a couple of reasons:
1: easier to reach your hp goal
2: colder intake temps
3: wont have to upgrade
4: better top end with a larger turbo
5: lag will help on the street

generally, a larger compressor doesn't need to spin fast to produce boost (doesnt heat the intake charge as much) but the size still has to be efficient (at least 65% ) for operation within peak tq & hp.
I wouldn't touch the T3/60-1
Id rather go with a T04E ..thats just me

bigger turbo + less boost = less torque
go with a t3/to4e, 300 whp is cake for that turbo
no need for a 60-1 and lag your *** off so you can run 1-2 lbs of boost less.

Pick a turbo that is efficient at 300hp. You can go lots of places and look at compressor maps and see which one will work best for you.
Dont geta big turbo that you wont utilize. You can make close to your goal on 8-9 psi with hondata, my recomendation goes to t3/t04e, or go with precision if you got the $. Im going with the sc34 right now its getting utilized next to my bed

i'm using a t3/t04e 60 trim, .63ar w/ stage 5 wheel on hondata and 10lbs boost
hopefully with a decent tune i can get 300whp

for 'Only' 300whp. look at a compressor that does the 'job'
and thats it.
You aren't goign to run 1000cc inj so you'll have the fuel for
a 'later' upgrade.
Pick the turbo, and the rest of your components to meet a
a common goal. Why have a 400hp turbo and 300hp worth of inj?
Or why have a 400hp turbo and a 2.25" exhaust?
Or why build in 'lag' when you don't have to?
Try a t3/to4E:
Look at the 46 trim or 50 trim compressors. (sure they won't make 450, but 300
is what they were 'made' for)
Turbine side: look at stage a stage 3 wheel in a .48 or a.63 housing. (the buick GN uses a .63 up past 400whp)
Hell, if you only wanted to ~210whp Id say go for a T25... full boost at 2200 is
not so bad....
Rememebr its about the AREA under the curve that matters....

yo 94gold, i got ur IM but i can't reply, they are like broken or something
it was on a 57 trim t3/t04e, part of the max rev kit, 60 compressor, 63 exhaust w/ the maxrev 2.5 dp and carsound cat, with 3" cat back

Yup, I am running at 7 PSI now and it feels great... 300whp easily down the road, I have the same goal. 300whp daily driver with room to grow once I get a built bottom end

Jefnes - great advice man!!! i see way to many people using massive turbo's that don't need them.... these same people would run faster 1/4's with smaller turbo's...
here's a perfect example... my buddy with a soch vtec eg put on an IHI 25 turbo from a probe and ran 14.0 @103mph on friday night..... and then another buddy of mine who has a b16a civic with a t3/t04e 60 trim .63 a/r ended up spinning through 1st and 2nd (with drag radials). and pulled a 15.0 on his BEST run.. he even had a couple runs in the 16's....
