Default Just bought an EF civic w/ a B17 swap, got some questions.

hey guys, I am joining the EF crowd, just bought the car (89 civic hatch) over the weekend, and I have a few questions:

1. this car is obd0 right? and the car has a place racing ecu that plugs right into the stock harness. So is this an obd0 ecu thats modified to command the obd1 engine?

2. So if I want to swap the ecu out for a stock b16 ecu (smog), do I need a obd0 to obd1 harness, is there such a thing, and where can I find one?

3. Will I have to change the distributor and injectors to run the obd1 ecu?

I'm assuming they converted it to obd-0 by changing the dizzy and injectors. You will have to convert it back by using the obd-1 dizzy, 92+ injectors (saturated), the obd-0->obd-1 harness, and the obd-1 ecu (chipped p28 or 92-93 gs-r).

The correct ECU would be a P61, BTW.
Is the 4 wire O2 hooked up corecttly?
And if it was converted to OBD0 you need to remove the resistor box, or at least take it out of the circuit.
I think that's everything.

1. It's hard to say about what kind of ECU you have right now. It is possible that whoever did the swap simply soldered on the newer ECU plugs rather than going with an adaptor harness. This would indeed make it appear that the ECU is one that would plug directly into stock CRX plugs. Take a look at the plugs themselves. If there are three gray plugs that are all close together, you are running a 1992+ ECU. If you have one white plug and two black plugs, with the white plug somewhat separate from the black ones, you have a 1988-1991 ECU. Then take a look at the number on the ECU. The P61 is the proper ECU for the B17A. This requires the aforementioned wiring change (or adaptor harness). Other 1992+ possibilities include the P30, PR3, and P72, PR4, or P75 (the PR4 and P75 must be changed to run VTEC). 1988-1991 ECUs would be a PR3, PR4, PW0, or PM6 (modified to run VTEC). Keep in mind that the PR3 and PR4 can come with either 1988-1991 and 1992+ plugs. And although they both run the same motor (B16A or B18A), they are NOT interchangeable. Regardless, the P61 is the ECU you need to be legal.

2. If the ECU you have is NOT a P61, they you need to get a P61. But you will only need to get an adaptor or change the plugs if the plugs have not already been changed.

3. If the plugs have been changed and you are running a P30, 1992+ PR3, 1992+ PR4, P72, or P75, then you just need to get the P61 ECU and you are ready to go. If you are running a pre-1992 ECU, you will need to do several things. First of all, you will need to either change the ECU plugs or get an adaptor harness. You will need to get the 1992+ injectors, distributer, and four wire oxygen sensor. And you will have to modify the engine harness to run this stuff.

Thanks guys for the replies,

Okay, I have one white plug and 2 black ones close together, this would mean that I am running a obd0 ecu chipped by place racing to run the b17.

I plan to eventually swap out the b17 for a b20vtec, and convert the car to obd1.

so ill need:

obd1 ecu
obd0 to obd1 conversion harness
obd1 injectors
obd1 O2 sensor
obd1 distributor
remove resister box

does that sound okay?

how do I remove the resistor box and run obd1 injectors?

anyone want to buy my b17 swap configured for obd0 car?

OBD Conversion Harness
OBD1 ECU
OBD1 Or OBD2 Fulel Injectors along with Plugs
OBD1 Distributor with both sides of both plugs
4 wire O2 sensor with both ssides of plug
Coolant Temp Plug
Vtec Oil Pressure and Spool Solenoid

You will need to add the injectors to the engine harness of your car.
Match the colors on the 5 wires atat are in you current dx distributor Plug.
Two wires C1 Blue/grn and c2 blue yellow will need to be connect direct to the conversion harness.

O2 sensor will needed to be spliced to the Fuel Injector wires the extra wire will need to be added on the fuel injector side for the o2 sensor!!!

Will need to swap the TPS plug grn/wht with the yel/wht wires.

TPS and EAVC wires need to be lengthened..

If I have left something hopefully not someone correct me
