I tried a search, but couldn't find anything on them...

SO what do u guys use to gap ur rings? just a file? i remember a post a while back that had an inexpensive little ring gap grinder that i belived hooked up to ur drill or sumthin like that...does anybody know where i can find something like that?

I use a normal file from home depot. One thing you need to keep in mind is that make sure that you take out th sharp edges out of the surface you just grind and smooth it out...grind it to the gap that you want, then smooth out the edges.

By doing this, the ring will not "Stuck" in the grooves as it trying to expand.

I have a ring filer from Summit, but I have used a flat hand file before....

remember you want teh gap liek this "/ \"

 

I used a small Swiss file I bought at a Sears.

 

Why should the ring gap be like that "^". Posted above. I would thing it would be sraight gap so when it expans it comes perfectly together like this "II".

 

I use a benchtop mounted rotating ring filer too. Any good file should work just as well, just make sure to debur the edges after you file them.
