pre ls-vtec going from auto to manual tranny which tranny to use???
i am having a tough time deciding what tranny to use on my ls-vtec setup? i have a 98 auto, and i am looking at a 2gen manual gsr tranny now. I want to know if this is smart, how much thay generally go for, and are there any other trannys that will work that may be better or more cost friendly? also what kinds of problems will i run into doing this swap?(mounts, shift linkage, etc) once again i am a newbie at all this im just looking for the best route.... t.i.a
The GSR tranny is a good start for an LS/Vtec.....you can get into changing and mix matching gears, diffs, and ring gears from the B16 and Type-R but thats something that will take a little bit of money if you want to go that route. Cost on a GSR tranny in good condition could be anywhere from $500 to $1500 depending on what condition and where you are getting it from.....this is just an estimate, could be more could be less. As for the swap you will need the Transmission, shift linkage, manual Transmission halfshaft, tranny side motor mounts, Clutch Master Cylinder, slave cylinder, Clutch, brake, and gas pedal from a manual car, you might have to drill a hole for the clutch pedal mount bolts and rod in the firewall depending on the car, and a little bit of wiring.......this list doesn't go for all cars.....civic will need an ECU and 2nd gen integs will need some relocation of the mount that is spot welded on the frame.
good looking out philafelman.....If you have a 98 integra then you will need a 94 and up transmission which is a 3rd gen transmission. The 2nd gen transmission is a cable type and will only work for the 90-93 integra's
If Im forgetting anything please add to the list.........
Hope this helps out.

Here is what I plan on using just for fun...
-Hyrdo B16A tranny.
-ATS 4.92 FD
-92-93 USDM GSR 1st & 3rd gear
-88-91 JDM S1/J1 5th gear
If I had the money....
4.15 FD
2.462 1st
1.813 2nd
1.500 3rd
1.250 4th
1.045 5th
Quaife LSD
I would atleast for your set-up do a hydro B16A tranny.

dont they sell hydro to cable conversions? i hear that the cable tranny's are better for racing... is this true? what car would the b16a tranny come out of? and would an ls tranny be a bad idea? t.i.a
Yes they do make a conversion for it, but I would stay Hydro. you can get a b16a hydro from a 96 jdm civic or a 99 USDM Si. the LS would be a bad idea in my opinion for an allmotor setup. the gear ratio in a b16, type-r or GSR would be a better idea for allmotor.
