Default is this a safe setup? turbo b16

hey, i was just wondering if this setup is safe for reliability and just in general.
b16a II(jdm)
t28 turbo
hks manni
greddy s bov
vortec FMU
msd 6a ignition
msd blaster pack
gsr ecu
edit: type r TB
how safe is it to run that setup? the car right now is non intercooled(accident) and the owner says he hasn't really been boosting since he lost the intercooler. oh and the boost is set at 5 psi. any thoughts on this setup and what can make it more reliable would be appriciated. is it safe to boost the 5 lbs non intercooled with this setup say at the track? tnx

would it be safe to disconnect the turbo from the TB and run without boost until i get an intercooler?

it will be safe at 5psi till you get an intercooler and throw out the FMU in favor of a better way to manage fuel (i.e. SAFC, SAFC II, VAFC, etc..). till then i wouldnt boost much higher.

hey thanks, do you think that the problem with the vortec fmu is that it just richens it up all around and doesn't tune it really at all? i mean if all it does is richen it then it should be pretty safe at low boost. tnx and more suggestions welcome.

viet: what does that link have anything to do with this? or is it a typo?

and what would happen if something were to happen? would i hear the pinging of detonation or could it all out just blow? what type of compression numbers should i be gettin? tnx

Yes the FMU sucks because it just richens things up w/o any regard for how much and when it needs more fuel.

Yes you can blow your engine w/o ever hearing a ping or knock... but it's not that likely on 5lbs... intercooled or not... (intercooled 5lbs (measured after the turbo but before the intercooler... is probobly DAMN close to NO lbs of boost)

Compression numbers shouldn't change w/turbo... it's just cranking so it should be the same as before (the turbo isn't adding any compression as long as it's not A. spooled and B. running (no combustion happening while doing the comp. test.) This is unless you've changed the headgasket or rings or pistons etc...

Couple of Q's for you...

Are you running colder plugs? if not you should

Do you have any means of ignition retard? If not you should either directly retard your ignition or get an msd progessive retard thingy. (they progressively through the rpm range to prevent pre-ignition).

How many miles are on the engine?

Was it turboed before or did you buy the kit that was on someone elses car before?
