B16A T25/ FMU TURBO SETUP??
I am going to boost my del (b16a3). Can anyone tell me how well a garrett t25 turbo will perform compaired to the usual t3/t4 setups? Also is upgrading the injectors and pump necessary if i only run 6-8 psi (using a 10:1 rise fmu and s-afc)?
this is what i ordered so far:
-turbo specialties superior kit (t25) (10:1 rise fmu)
-godspeed intercooler kit
-type rs bov
-apexi s-afc neo
-a/f & boost gauges
-boost controller
i am thinking that this should be all i need with tuning the afc to boost 6-8psi and not have any problems.
Please give me any advice you can about my setup.

even with the little t25, which i think is too small for your setup, you are treading on thin ice with the afc and fmu.
please look into some sort of chip/ management. your engine will thankyou for it.

Sell the FMU & AFC and just get a Chipped ECU. Save yourself the headache. Granted people have done it but all the horror stories arent worth it. Every reliable setup uses some sort of engine management. The AFC will not control your timing properly. Timing is everything when it comes to forced induction.

ok first off i would say a t25 is way small for a b16 its just going to run out of steam at the top but spool hella quick and as for the fmu and hack just dont expect it to run perfect i have went both ways running a good basemap can suprise you i have allways used xenocron he knows his **** and i have used a fmu once as a band aid and well it ran but i blew the hg but then agine i was raping the car pretty hard when i shouldnt have so..

This is a good thread regarding fmu tuning

search for more threads by him as there is a part2&3 I think.

i thought that was franks old thread.
he put a lot of time and effort that most people wont go through on here any way.
it can be done, but he had patience to see it all the way through.
and many passes on the route 9 dyno (street tuning)
but with all the things goin on there, fmu, inline pump, btm, afc, thats 4 things to go wrong.
vs.
chip and injectors.
even with the btm you can only pull timing. with a chipped ecu you can put it where you want. and if you get into something like the s300, bam there is a gear based boost controller as well.
just my o.o2

FMUs arent the best option but they can get the job done if youre running low boost, which apparently you are...its not a bad temporary option just dont run it forever. I'll be running an FMU and Walbro pump for a while until I put the money together to get eCtune. If money isnt an issue for you though, you should definitely ditch the safc and fmu and get an EMS.

If I upgrade to hondata or ectune in the future would I still leave the fmu installed and could I still get use out of the safc or would I need to take it out after chipping ecu?

Re: B16A T25/ FMU TURBO SETUP??
Just to be clear, I wasn't supporting the use of an FMU over real tunning. I just think that's a must read for anyone not willing to see reason and determined to try old school tunning. Proof that it can be done. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.
