Default JE, CP, Wiseco??? feedback please

trying to pick the best piston for my c5 shortblock. I have read that certain JE's (9:1 or 10:1) are thin around where the valve releifs are. Can anyone touch on this. I have personally run both the 9:1 and 10:1 je's in my last two setups with no problems. Should i stick with these?

I have been hearing good things about Endyn, Wiseco, and CP lately and mainly just need some feedback. what are you guys running.

The block is c5, B16a head and i want compression to be around 10:1. What do you guys reccommend? CHRIS

I have been hearing good things about CP pistons lately. I like their design (no top grooves). I went with ENDYN pistons before CP pistons were discussed on Honda Tech.

the larger the bore, the more meat it has around the valve relief area, if that's what you were wondering about.

Valve relief area stays the same, since it was designed to take the stock valve diameter at the same stock locations, therefore, larger bore will give you more extra meat left until the edge of the piston.

83mm would be the better medium IMO.

Thanks for the info. Who else is running Endyn or CP pistons?

I run the weisco/endyn pistons in my allmotor setup....no complaints here. Also, running JE's in my FI setup, and haven't had any problems at all with them (and i've even cracked a sleeved block and teh pistons were fine).

Wisecos are cheaper and wiegh about 10 grams less than your average JE piston, Wisecos are great for the money, and if you think about it 10 grams is alot in a rotating assembly. just my .02 cents

First off I would go with the Weiscos/Endyn's first... I love JE but as you said their relief-edge is very thin making it the first thing to go if you detonate... I've seen soooo many chip it's not even funny but with the proper tuning, etc. you can make them work... Good Luck and let us know how it goes... By the way, I would do 10.0:1, hehe

i looked into the Rollerwave's but they are only offered in ~ 9.0-9.1 compression if i remember correctly. I definitely want closer to 10:1

i think i decided to go with CP. I found the CP's with ~10:1 , crower rods, ARP headstuds and rings for $1260.00 seems like a pretty good deal to me. And i was told that this was the ones without the lateral gas ports.

No CP's come with gas ports (lateral or on top) as standard. This modification, however, can be done to any CP Piston

That's not true. Allot of people around my area run ENDYN's pistons. They range from 7.98:1 to 12.27:1 for the B16a.

I have some nice pictures of my JE's that decided to let go right in the sweet spot/valve reliefs. I'll try to host them tomorrow and post pictures for you guys. Understand that my car was not tuned to it's full ability and the I was having detonation since my deceleration fuel tables were out of wack. Plus the temp here gets pretty dramatic hot then cold all in one day and the AEM just couldn't keep up. So it's not all JE's fault, but does show the weak spots in the piston. Later Allen
