The brace that connects to the manifold and the block, do I need it? Also what is that black box that sits between the brace and the block? It has two hoses coming out of the top of it. What is the name of it and what does it do?

The black box is part of the pcv system. And the brace, I would put it back on. You don't have to but why not ?

 

the brace it not needed an i've never seen it used before. the black box is part of your ventilation system for your block and crankcase, you need to keep that but the bracket can be removed and the black box retained.

 

I will be using a JG manifold and I don't think it allows that brace to be used. As far as the black box goes, what is it actually called?

 

I dont think you need the brace.... when i took my engine apart i some how lost it.. i had my engine running for more than 2 years now and i still havent had a problem without the brace....

 

oil separator

 

can you substitue the oil separator with an aftermarket oil catch can? Is there any benefit to something like that?
