Default Anyone ventured into building their own C.A.'s

Contemplating building myself some upper control arms for the front of my EG and incorporating camber and caster adjustments.
I am also considering building some LCA's in the rear to bring the camber back in from the bottom to keep my rear tires from rubbing with moving the camber out from the top

Just curious if anyone has considered or done the same
looking for some ideas.
I know there is many Aftermarket solutions, but i like expermentation

Not to be a buzz-kill but a person either (a) has the skills necessary to do something like this, so is not experimenting, or (b) is running a serious risk of building something that is going to break and pitch the owner into the trees.

A year of voc welding instruction will get person (b) to a point where he/she understands his/her limitations and probably won't try it. Sorry.

you inquire with no facts that I infact am a skilled welder.....

expirementation is in fact the word i would like use because of the involvement with different configurations and what works..

the real point is yoou can buy them for less than the materials and your time is probably worth.

I agree with the thought that you may be venturing into an area that can cause more harm than good. Even if you are a skilled welder and have the materials at hand-can you duplicate that which has already been done. Something else to think on is what you want to do with the car.

If you are going SCCA ITA/NASA H1-5 then you will be restriced as to what components you can use on the chassis. If this is not the scenario then you are free to "experiment" with whatever you want. Just keep in mind that most aftermarket pieces have been put thru a lot of testing and there are ways to make them work to 'your' advantage without sacrificing anything more than your time working with them.

Just some humble thoughts.

Okaaay, then. I have a question - if you have all of the skills necessary and already know the answer, why did you ask? Just do the load analysis, design the adjustment system, determine what kind of over-capacity factor you are comfortable with, select materials and source them, fabricate prototypes, do a load test, refine as necessary, build the production parts, and install them.

I asked for ideas and input... If you dont agree then dont participate, you need not try to flatter me with your knowledge. I spend my time at work building and engineering wishbones and uprights on our race-car , I have confidence and do know whats involved with building a set if control arms for my street car
and no i have no intention on particapating with any SCCA events...
this is a street car

I think your missing the point.

You can get billet LCA's for around 150 a set or less.

How many hours of time you could be making something more useful that you can't neccessarily buy such as this brace.

if you really want to make them check out competition engineerings products.

I am building a couple sets for my "locost 7" project (a much more straight forward CA design). If you have the knowledge, time, equipment, and materials you could probably do it, but:

(I thought RJ posted some CAD UCA designs a while back, did he ever make any?)

I think there is a company that makes rear lca's like the ones you describe (if I understand you correctly), maybe someone can help with the name.
