Default Finally getting my motor done! Need some opinions.

Finally found a good job after graduating 7 months ago. Now I got some money saved up to finally make my R fast, I hope! I'm trying to build my car to be as fast and as reliable as it can be. The car is going to be my daily driver. I also want to be able to drive my car when I go out of town and not have to worry about reliability issues and problems.

So now to the good stuff. Here are some of the parts I'm planning on getting, but everything is still subject to change. I'm still an amateur when it comes to knowing about car parts and engine building, so forgive me if I say something that doesnt make sense.

-Port and polished head
-Toda valvetrain
-Toda VTEC Killers
-Toda ITB's
-Wiseco pistons (12.5-12.8 CR)
-Crower rods
-Resleeved block and bored to 84-84.5mm and stroked to 2.0 liter.
-Going to use Hondata
-driven on 93 octane

These parts are just the major things on my list. But I just wanted to get opinions from people on HT, because I've always received good advice here. I just wanted to know what do you think about this setup and if its going to be ok daily driven and long driven out of state? I'm not too worried about gas mileage as long as its doesnt get too crappy. But I guess thats up to the tuning also.

Another issue for me are the VTEC Killers, are they a good cam to run for my motor to be daily driven/long driven? or will they eventually wear down and wear down my valvetrain?

So basically my ideal motor is to be pretty quick on street and occasional 1/4 mile trackin, but yet be a good daily driven motor.

Let me know what you guys think, THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

One love, big hug!! hehe!

I've just heard nothing but good things about them. Plus, from what Ive researched about them, they seem to be worth it. The two videos that have been posted here on HT are what caught my interest. The videos are the ones that show the smooth idle with ITB's and the other one show the crazy *** pull at 4 or 5 grand. But, i've emailed jeff at Importbuilders and he's told me that is it possible for them to be streetable.

by your laughing i guess my ideal motor is impossible. hehe! im just hoping with some good tuning that it'll be possible.

With a 84.5mm bore you will have 2.0liters. No need to stroke it. If you just want a pretty quick, streetable 1/4mi car I would have to say you are pretty far off the mark.

A 2.0liter B series with a decent set of cams tuned correctly will be plenty quick enough (low 13's high 12's) and reliable. No need for VTEC killers or ITB's IMO.

why u need 220+whp for the street

get a good header, mild cams, P&P head, hondata/cam gears.

maybe fd, and put the rest into taking time off work to drive your car

200whp is plenty for street

i would rather have more time to drive my car on the track and on curvy roads then have another 10-15+whp that i cant use cause im stuck working.

dont forgot u are doing this to enjoy your car more.

but what do i know, u might not even have to work much....

good point. I just want to get the most I can out of my motor while still being reliable. If Jeff at IB says his motor package 3, can put out as much as 240 whp and still be streetable and reliable, then I want that 240 or so whp.

thanks for your opinion, keep in mind this motor build is still subject to change.
i just wanted to gather opinions on what other R owners have done.

Putting all that $$ into a mainly steet driven car with an occasional 1/4 mile sprint would be a huge waist IMO. Even with a 2.0L motor, it still has to be really wound out to get there- first 2 gears will be alot of wheel spin, and by the time you're in the fun part of the power band in 3rd.... you're getting pretty illegal.

Consider going with a moderate FI setup, either supercharger or turbo. You can have all the power you're looking at with your other option with about 8psi and a stock bottom end (again, all tuning- but then again you're expecting a 1000rpm idle with killers), plus you'll have torque at almost any engine speed. Fun, streetable, and probably more reliable than your original thought.

Then again, how often do you really need 240 hp? Screw it: get yourself a really good I/H/E combo (which is plenty of power for daily driving IMO) and a nice simple 75 shot of nitrous for those few times you want to giddy-up either on the street or the track. That would probably impress at the local shows more anyway.

I don't know... it's late and I'm bored so I just felt like typing.

I remember the first and only time I seriously considered a wild setup like yours and after a little time I just realized it would be too much time and $$ when the car is already so much fun. Get some good brake fluid and pads and hit up an HPDE or auto-x. I've found alot of satisfaction in passing Mustangs and M3s in a relatively stock ITR.
