Default Late B18A or B18B head on 1990 B18A motor?

Hi,

I'm new around hear, did a search, didn't find the info I was looking for.

I have a 1990 B18A motor, getting reading to put into my 1991 STD Hatch. It seems that I can find a 92-92 B18A or 94+B18B head for about $150-$200 or so, around here, and that the later B18's make 10-12 more horsepower and have a slightly higher redline(due to valve springs?)

Would this be worth doing? Seems like $200 for 10 HP is a good deal. Anyone done this? Need to add more fuel or change the ECU?

Thanks,
Haggar

90-91 its obd0
92-thru 96 obd1
97-01 obd2

so if you are doing the swap get the head w/(all internals) and intake as well
to get all the power.
and your computer needs to be changed as well.

you dont need to swap the computer. Chip the ecu you have (chips are $20 on ebay) and use the OBD-O distributor, ECU, injectors and O2 sensor. Less hassle.

The head, cams and manifold together will net about 10hp and rev limit is bumped a few hundred rpm.

If you retain your distrubuter and intake manifold, or at leats the sensors on it, its a straight swap over. You may even be able to find a 97-01 CRV head from a junkyard....exact same head, except for the intake manifold, and they may not realize it's a Integra head and charge the overpriced civic/integra markup.

At the same time, you could just buy a pair of crower cams for like $330 and definently get 10HP. 62402 or 62403 should be fine.

The later intake manifold flows better. Fits fine. All the sensors from the later manifold hook up except the air boost valve - throw that away

So, if I went with the new head AND the crower cams, I ought to net 20hp?

I'm heading out ot the junkyards anyway, I need to find the bracket with the MAP sensor/pressure regulator/purse solenoid. Swapping this into my civic, and I'm told I need to swap this. T

Which cams would you recommend for a mild engine --> I/H/E, maybe fule pressure regulator and/or chipped ECU.

Also, anyone used those Ebay chips? worth it or Junk?

Thanks for the info so far, its greatly appreciated.

I used a 'PYR' and 'Dinan' chips on the car. Both run rich, but the PYR felt a little peppier. I swapped it for the 'Dinan' chip because it has a lower rev limit.

For mild engine just do bolt ons - but buy good parts, not cheap ebay crap.
