I am currently running Redline oil. I drive to work 30 minutes each way 5 days a week. How often should I change the oil?

Those type of synthetic oil require less frequent oil changes. Anyway, you should give a call to Redline oil for a tech support.

Depends how hard you drive too. If the oil is no more black than anything then change it.

You need to post a question like that, you should have your car taken away.

Dave (mltdown) posted this message/question - probably the reason it makes no sense.

LOL, Gonna come repo it form me Josh?

Actually, my buddy mentioned that a lot o truck companies find they can use oil far beyond the recommended date. They get the oil tested and if it checks out it is okay to keep going.

I dunno, I just figure at $50 an oil change I don't want to waste money. Realize that I drive 30 minutes twice a day on the highway 5 days a week. I mean that racks up the miles.

Switch oil if you drive that much then. How about some "cheap" Mobil 1?

3000 miles or 3 months- which ever comes first.

just be sure to check your oil every other day.

50 for an oil change is your own problem, im fine with 10w30 castrol, and with honda oil filter and oil i pay 16.00 if that. Everyone will agree either 3000 miles or 3 months which ever is first

No, they don't. That was a claim made by the synthetic oil companies twenty years ago, and they no longer make such claims. Remember, synthetic oil may be more resistant to thermal breakdown, but it will accumulate contaminants as fast as conventional oil.

From the Mobil 1 FAQ:

MYTH: You don't have to change the oil as often when using Mobil 1.

REALITY: While Mobil 1 has given excellent results in extended oil drain tests, ExxonMobil prefers to remain conservative with oil drain recommendations. ExxonMobil engineers recommend that you can go all the way to the maximum mileage or time frame shown in your owner's manual for oil changes when using Mobil 1 with SuperSyn™. This allows the reserve protection capabilities of Mobil 1 with SuperSyn™ to cover unusual or unexpected driving conditions.

Oil change intervals can be as short as 3,000 miles or as long as 15,000 miles on some new cars. Mobil 1 with SuperSyn™'s high-performance reserves can give you the confidence to go the full mileage or time frame recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. Mobil 1 with SuperSyn™ is especially suitable for the latest vehicles with extended drain intervals or vehicles with oil monitoring systems that vary oil drain intervals.

I would change it more often since redline seems to cause more wear in our cars than mobil1.

i don't use either one.. plain quaker state.. i might try syntetic or blend - that i believe may help with wear..

whatever wear it causes, its not very different within these 750miles

Onyx: Use a different oil. Analysis on Redline in B18C's really don't show good results anyways.

Ken: One must keep an open mind on that. I think it's all marketing twenty years ago and today. If you tell everyone they'll greatly extend the life of their motor if they change it every 1000 miles half of this forum would start doing 1000 mile oil changes without any research of their own to determing "the truth".

Personally, I have some 5,000 mile old Castrol GTX I'm going to send in for analysis soon. I'll post the results.
