What are the cons of shaving your emblems using bondo?
I'm about to get my emblems shaved off and the body shop is planning on using bondo. I've never shaved my emblems before and don't know much about bondo, so what are the cons of using bondo?
Over time, it can weaken, and the bondo can crack, or allow the holes to show up again if it starts to cave in.

Depends on the quality of the work, and how the car is treated. I've seen people bondo over the line that goes areound their door handle, only to have it start cracking after a few weeks of opening and closing the door.

You shouldn't use bondo to fill in the holes from your emblems. You should weld them closed. But you might have to use some. I'd worry about it cracking on the trunk unless you close your trunk gently. But then again, your emblem places aren't on parts of the car that get abused everyday (Like doors). So, I guess it's just a matter of time.
they WILL "sink" over time..a year or two you can run you hand over it and there's a bump/dip, you can see it too, it's ugly since all the hole are showing

Yes. You will appreciate doing it right the first time instead of having to rebondo it all the time.

bump what you fellas think about bondoing fenders and front bumper and rear quarter panels?? is fiberglass the answer orrr?? what should i do.. got a new kit on now its time to smooooth :-)
you nubs..
Bondo is what you use to shave your emblems.
what else are you going to use?
even when you weld them, you still need bondo to cover it up nicely.
if people buy the good bondo ie: 3M with some fiber glass addiative.. then it would work out great.
the only reason you see bondo crack up on some cars, is because the way its treated. People tend to put bondo all over the place, like on body kits, or shaving your door handles. Bondo is not a filler, its a cover up on work.
Bondo is suppost to be 1/8 thick over the surface of the car.
i just need to get this off my back. I hate idiots that spray paint their whole car before they get a paint job. Primer isnt what you think it is. Primer is just a coat that covers up the bondo, so you can watersand your car to a semi finial finish, then you can spray paint the car. I just hate to see idiots doing it.
Phew..
peace..

I was referring to people who have the holes covered up with bondo, or use bondo to hide molding holes. These idiots have cracking paint everywhere because of it. Obviously if the shop does what they're supposed to, it's going to last. The thread starter was asking about bondo, didn't mention anything about welding etc.
question for the NrG
Seem like ya know some stuff.. so what should i use to smooth out the lines in my bumpers? like where my kits sideskirts meet my front / rear bumper and where my fenders meet my front bumper?? I'm waiting on this to actually do it

The front bumper is urethane.
In addition, welding a hole that is narrower than a pen may not be worth all the effort.
Bear in mind that there are different types of bondo.

thats the thing i was trying to say.
most of the time people do it, it comes out great. but after months of driving, and the lip gets hit by stuff, it will start cracking. Thats why i think its dumb to bondo on body kits lol.

WELDING THIN METAL WILL WARP IT!!! Please, remember this about all else . . for those holes, use a quality filler, there's some putties out there designed to flex and won't crack. If you put a ton of bondo on an area, it's going to look bad over time. . . if you take care at what you are doing and use puddies, you should be OK.
Welding the hood is a very tricky . . you must go slow because you are heating up some very thin metal and when it cools, it can buckle on it's self (seen this happen a few times with doors)
