My poor mans Type R is running.......
Just got my car back from Upgrade Engineering yesterday. It was just a 96 b18c with bolt-ons. Heres the current setup:
96 GSR block
b16a1 pistons
b16 head, ported/polished
ITR valvesprings
ITR intake cam
and the old bolt-ons.
Driving it home yesterday i could hear the higher compression espeially when Vtec kicks in, but i cant really get on it that much till my rings are seated. This was all done on the car, and i had the parts. I paid 415 total with new rings. Gotta get it out to the track this summer to get some times, i can definitely feel the difference with the butt dyno.
p.s. I need to tune it now, the GSR was runing LEAN!!! Its wired obd0 using a pr3 ECU. WIll a VAFC be enough or should also get a pump and FPR?

One more thing, what compression do pr3 pistons yield in a GSR block with b16 head? Ive been told anywhere from 10.8 to 11.5 Anybody know for sure?
1] get an fpr
2] http://www.c-speedracing.com has a compression calc i think there site may be down. its in the how-to section
3] timing... i have no idea...

I hit 100 miles yesterday, so i thought it was time to redline it. DAHM!!! WAy more top end then the b18c ever had. I am pleased, and it is still untuned and runin lean. 35-38 mpg lean. Gotta get some dyno numbers and 1/4 times.
I have the same problem running lean but on my b16. I just got a chipped p28 so I can run a richer map, I also have a Walbro 190lph fuel pump and a AEM ADJ FPR. My suggestions is to bump up the fuel pressure if you have an adjustable fpr but dont go to high or like I had to do, get a chipped ecu for a richer map and then tune it down with the VAFC. The VAFC's from what I heard are not very good at added fuel. If you where to go that route you might just have enough for a hondata if there is a tuner around in your area.

what tranny are you using??? i'm having a 2000 head on 99 block with jdm itr pistons being installed soon. congrats on the motor and good luck
Im using a 93 GSR tranny. Its cable, cause this swap is in an EF. I am definitely impressed with this setup. It cost me 300 in labor plus 115 for rings and 120 for all seals and gaskets. I already had the pistons, and ITR valvesprings and cams, and ported/polished head myself. Low budget but very effective.
hey Mhentat gola or whatever your name is, your little quote for you signature totally contradicts where you went and had your motor built. Upgrade Engineering is the most corupt bunch of doo hingys in the god damn world. Tim knows as much about hondas as i do about the mysterious life of the syberian goat people, which i dont know a damn thing about. you probably had that teal ef that was there huh? i garuntee your motor skrews you somehow but thats a good thing cause that way you won't have to face the horrible embarassment of getting laced by pretty much any car of your caliber.
wtf is your problem dude. Upgrade engineering are big time laggers, i know that. But, i went there because i got a really good price on labor, all parts i provided. It took them 2 weeks longer then promised, but im satisfied with the result.
yeah umgrade does lag big time. my roomate got an lsvtec done there and it only took what 6-7 months. could you make it day to day in your life with no car for 6 to 7 months? Tim seems to know his **** though i know lots of people that have gone to him and have had bad *** engines for along time. i have Tims back but man how can you lag so hard. actually Brians seems to do all the work there. upgrade has a dyno why dont you go back there and have Tim hook you up.
