It's a pain in the *** to pull my oil pump just to measure the gear and re-install it.. so I thought it would be easier just to order one and pull my **** apart just once.

Anyone measured a ITR oil pump gear? Is it 80mm or 84mm?

yup....84mm was my 98itr stocker...mine was measured and i'm using the toda 84mm oilpump gear now

 

What about the B16A (00 Si)?

 

Does anyone really know wtf that gear is for yet?

 

Reduces chance of oil pump failure during high rpm racing conditions.

 

smaller gear gets the oil to the top of the motor faster. just a precaution at high rpms. needed? maybe not....but precautionary for people that run it up in the rpms

 

I think the Toda oil pump gear is useless since sgt revs up to 10k with no problem
but I guess it's just a precaution

I remember reading somewhere (UR maybe) that the OEM pump gear is sintered metal - not good for high revs.

 

My oil pump shows no unusual wear after 45k miles.

And yes, thats taken to 10k frequently.

The stock oil pump gears are fine if you drag race, i.e. short bursts of high rpm use. But if your car is run in any kind of endurance race, i.e. 7~9000rpm constantly, then the stock oil pump gear will fail. The Japanse N1 cars all seem to use this TODA gear. The NSX guys have the same problem.

 

I agree Blade, 3hours straight above 6500 is much different than dragging.....

 

The stock gear and Toda gear are the same shape and grooves, The only difference is the metal, The Toda will last alot longer in High RPM Usage.
And yes its 84mm for the ITR.
