Please tell me someone has tried this!!!!!!

I just found this beast! I am so excited! Could you freaking imagine having "THRUST" on your car! If we could design it effieciently enough to produce even 100 pounds of thrust, with a couple of those things mounted in your trunk, it would be a awsome kick in the pants. Jesus, now I have to make one. There is a vid of the thing running on an ebay auction. I will try to post the link in a minute

Not really FI I guess but.................I've built a few of these for fun, but I would never mount it on my car. I always mounted mine to test benches. Afterburners are a cool project to add to the turbine.
It is a good way to burn up some extra time.

Im not sure if i've heard of anyone ever mounting one on a car where would you go with it. Make sure you get the right tools b4 you try it!

Always an interesting and potentially entertaining idea... but it seems to me without the multiplication of torque via gears you might as well have a few friends behind your car pushing you around (from a standing start at least) - ever see the drag race between the indy car and the F-16? Of course the jet is capable of much higher speeds, but the indy car was at the end of the airport drag strip before the jet even started to build some serious speed. Afterburners would make short work of tailgaters though I suppose

After much testing of coarse, on a test bench, i dont see why I could not cram a couple of turbos and the nessicary eqiupment in the trunk. R&D is going to be the most difficult and expensive. Finding the right turbo size, fuel type, and ignition system is going to take some trial and error. If I can make one spit out some nice thrust numbers, With the addition of my already 210 hp, turning on the jet would be bad *** **** on the highway! possibly the 1/4 mile? And of course I would use the assistance of an afterburner!
I read somewhere that a t3 turbo can be made to produce 30lbs of thrust...so, I don't think there's enough room on the back of the car to mount all the ones you'd need...
On a related note; a company in the 60's made a jet-wheel-drive system available for beetles and other cars. It had a reasonable sized jet turbine that connected to the differential with a 1000:1 (or so) gear ration...made a stock beetle go into the 9's. They also put one of these on a gokart which went well into the 5's. complete death machine. i want one

in the video the engine doesnt even move the cart which seems to be on wheels.. and it uses a big turbo... I guess they might have locked the wheels...
the whole thing looks like nothing more than a tricky leaf blower

went to the track tonight in island dragway in great meadows, nj
they had 2 jet funy cars, one of them ran a 6.00 flat, it was the sickest most unbelievable thing i have experienced, i was about 80 ft away from the line and when it took off, literally, you could distinctlly feel a slight force from the sound waves alone
they were trapping at like 225 mph

There was a turbine powered MR2 a while back that I saw online somewhere. The guy had like 3 turbines going at once. The thing that sucked is the turbines were on or off. And the brakes weren't so good on it if I remember correctly.
