Default Tranny Problems....

Ever since i got my swap, it has given me nothing but problems

I purchased my swap from Osucka JDM motors

After i put the motor in the car, i noticed that the motor came with a blown head gasket and a bad distributor

While replacing the headgasket, i found out that my motor came out of an automatic car...so i fixed both of those problems and the car started

after driving it down the street, I found out that the clutch was excessivly worn

so i replaced the clutch, now i am having more problems

My 2nd gear is beggining to grind, 3rd will grind no matter what, 5th will grind no matter what and the tranny will not go into reverse, The tranny is a Y1 tranny

My questions are

If i were to rebuild the tranny, what parts (syncros, shift forks etc.) should i use (what car do they come out of?)

will a 90-93 USDM integra LS tranny bolt up to the B16a? if so, will the car perform badly with that tranny, I was told that the S1 tranny is a USDM tranny that would bolt up, but from what i understand, there are 2 versions of the S1, a USDM one and a JDM one, the one i would be getting would be from a junkyard so it would be the USDM one

I am all out of ideas at this point, I can't seem to be able to locate a Y1 tranny anywhere and I don't even know where to start with rebuilding it

I havn't had reverse in 8 months and it is really starting to irritate me

any help would be greatly appreciated

BTW: DON'T BUY FROM OSAKA JDM MOTORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

some people have used GM's syncromesh tranny fluid to "cure" some of the tranny grinding issues. you might want to give that a try before swapping out your tranny.

forget about rebuilding it if you have not done it before.

I say buy US 92-93 GSR or wait few months for hasport hydro to cable conversion (about 250) and get a new itr trany .
It took me some time to get all the little tricks to rebuild trannies.
Forgot to add, that you can use the LS but stay with 14" wheels and it's not too bad. My budy had LS with B17 and run 14.1. Then he switched to 93 GSR and run 14.2. hmmmmm

well, i wish you the best of luck in finding a good jdm b16 transmission (either an s1 or a j1) but it can be kind of hard to do. Prior to finding mine i was running my b16 in my 90 integra with an ls tranny. I had a lot of fun with my integra and ls tranny, though i did notice a pretty big difference in speed when i changed my transmissions. But honestly you should be able to pick up an ls transmission in decent conidtion for relativly cheap to hold you over until you can find the transmission you really want.
As for rebuilding, I was told that to accomplish it i would have to import the kir from japan, but interestingly enough i found this webpage http://courtneyeg9.streetracin....html . As for parts other than synchros i dont know though. I hope some of this has helped, if you have any questions let me know.

Hey, This is CRX A4 posting from a friends house,

How much taller is the USDM LS tranny VS the Y1 tranny i currently have?

is the car gonna be noticibly slower if i get a LS tranny?

I have 15" LS wheels on the car right now with 195/50 tires on it

I also got an offer for a mint condition Y1 or S1 tranny for $600 and it is guaranteed not to grind, but i think $600 is a little high for a tranny, what do you guys think?

Thanks for the help

Don't pay that much for a tranny. Go to any junkyard and check for an LS one. They are cheap and easy to find. It'll bolt right up.

Plus the junkyard will usually give a 30 day warranty.
Good luck.

my question about the LS tranny is that, will my car be noticibly slower because of the taller gearing?

LS trannys are suuuuper long.. like.. at the end of a quarter, like maybe starting 4th gear.. in my YS1 LSD im well into 5th.

the LS tranny is really good for a daily driver.. very well. however... for the most part, if you have a nice aftermarket clutch.. wiht the LS tranny, its usless. the tegs are big spline, and the B16 are small..

600 is the going rate.. but there is no such thing as a "mint" b16 tranny.. lol, they all have 30K, and they were all beat by some dumb FOB in japan.. lol, JDM B16 trannys are a gamble. im fed up wiht them.. but my YS1 LSD is holding up.. 2 years ago, when i street raced every night, i went through trannys every 3 montsh.. but then, trannys were 150. lol, now.. hard as hell to get.

bottom line.. unless your fully race.. and dont' like that 5K RPM going 60 on the freeway.. get a LS. I see them here and there for 350-400. but.. all B series cable trannys are getting harder and harder to come by.

along wiht alot of fellow HT/EF people, will be going for the cable to hydro conversion.. i have the YS1 LSD.. which will work for now.. but i make big power.. i will need another LSD tranny again.. so i most likely be going ITR hydro.

go LS.. you'll thank me. you go B16, and you'll still have the same suck *** RPM, and chance wearing out your syncro's in another 6 months..

you sure your shift linkage is ok? there are 2 points to inspect, the trany and the actual lever you shift with....

My biggest concern is that, will my car be noticibly slower with the LS tranny?

Is it worth the loss in acceleration?

On the strip.. matched B16 draging? yeah, the LS will get fucked up... but.. not bad.. maybe someone here could say car lengths?

but... yes, the LS will always loose.. but then again, people like me, will always get pissed off, cuz LS tranny people can hear they're radio.. lol

daily, and weekend racer.. LS..

FULL DRAG, I WANNA WHOOP ***! go.. b16. or even LSD if you have the power.. LSD will always help.. but, honestly, if you don't have the power, it wont' do you any good.

yeah, LSD promices you both tires.. same speed, on non LSD trannys, if your getting both tires, doesn't mean the tranny is really hooking up, and spinning both equally.. trust me.. off the line.. 2 in sync spinning tires, will always grab better than just 2 off balance spinning tires.

like i said.. its all what you want.. daily, liveable tranny.. i my self would go LS.. cheaper, really same parts.. the small/big spline diff. isn't jepordizing the realiability. then, if you want full race, high pick up, short gears, tourqey tranny.. really any B16 tranny..

hope i helped.
