How does the base model rsx compare to a older GSR (94- 01)
I'm finally ready to give up my little EF and move away from the civic department. I can't afford the Type S so should I be getting a used older model GSR with questionable beatings or a RSX EXTREME BASE MODEL but brand new? is the performance similiar? In all reality anything is faster than my dx hatch...haha
i would believe the gsr would be alil quicker but not much
i say go with the rsx b/c IMO Bseries engines are out and kseries are in.
but the gsr is fun...and u have to love the body compared to the rsx body..its just the rsx interior is 100x better then the integras'
but whatever u pick...just make sure u like it

i would get the gsr cuz that would b quicker than the base and u would get leather instead of cloth seats but its only if u like the gsr over a base depends on your prioritys for the car just my 2 cents
I used to drive a 99 GSR until it got jacked this summer! It's a fun car to drive. The question you want to ask is if you want to buy used car or a new car. Base RSX=new car with a little less power & nice interior, GSR=used car with a little more power with okay interior. I was in your situation last year and I bought the 99 GSR over a base RSX. I don't regret it!

It's a pretty hard choice to make. Considering a lack of decent GSR's for sale right now im going towards rsx. I don't need leather seats cloth works for me.
I'm used to a car that vibrates like hell has no a/c no p/s, rides like a race car but without race car power. I'm not going to be tracking it, and I don't St. Race...i just need a car with a little passing power. Oh and that can go up hills. If i was to do any mods it would be to get rid of the tires/rims. It looks to me that the k series has some decent power too... just extracting it would cost a lot

[QUOTE=circuitgsR]the base model is a girls car man [/QUOTE
I would buy a type S but
A.GAS is ******* expensive
B. I can't afford the car to begin with
C. The insurance for a type S is like 300 a month or somthing for a 21 year old in canada.
Add up that and the fact that I don't have a good job....
i'm buying the rsx... girls car or not don't bother me any....

i say go with the base RSX or even better, the Si
. i say this because when i had my 98 GSR, a great car btw, it was fun and quick, but i was always worried about it getting stolen, until it did get stolen and i was SOL.
The RSX isnt a bad car even if it is a base, plus its a new car and youll have the piece of mind of knowing exactly what the car has been through and that the RSX is less likely to be stolen. The aftermarket is growing rapidly for the RSX. The RSX's build quality, i think, feels better than older GSR's, a more solidly put together car.
Also why not a new Si? 03's can be had for 16-17k. Plus you get some nifty *** seats
. I totally loved my old GSR but even all those positive things cant make up for when the car was stolen.

I would go with the SIR thats the trim here in Canada. I really don't like the mini van look of that car. I would have to spend so much money right away to be happy. THe SIR is about 1 grand more here not sure why..my guess would be some better suspension. I'll probably change the stuff on the base anyway. Eventually it's going to take me awhile to pay this one off
Sounds like you would be better off with the base-RSX than the gsr. I used to own a gsr, now own a base-RSX. Here are my thoughts:
In terms of usable power, the RSX has more of it. You say you don't race, so this is probably what you're looking for. The RSX has a 10+ lb-ft torque advantage, and has more power throughout the lower and midrange rpm's. This is most noticeable when passing at highway speeds. You can easily just leave it in 5th.
In term so of peak power, the gsr has more power up top. That means that in a race, the base rsx can beat a gsr in the lower gears, but when you hit 3rd, the gsr will pull pretty hard. At the end of the quarter mile, the gsr will win by a car length or 2. The gsr obviously has the advantage on the top-end.
In terms of handling, I would call it a draw. The rsx sits higher so it feels a bit less sporty, but I think it cornered as flat or even flatter than a stock gsr. It's been a while since I owned a stock gsr, so the best way to compare would be to drive both back-to-back. Overall grip seemed about the same. I will say that the rsx feels more firmly damped (compared with its respective springrate) whereas the gsr felt more firmly sprung (compared with its respective damping rate). Their respective weights are about the same (2667 for the gsr and 2694 for the rsx).
In terms of looks, I honestly think the g3 tegs look a bit feminine. The design is definitely starting to show its age, and that's actually why I switched over to the RSX. It looks almost muscular in comparison (more prominent fender bulges, less lean looking). However, the RSX can sometimes look like a round, bulbous wedge from some angles.
From the interior, the RSX is obviously the better looking car. Silver gauges, red lighting.. very sharp and modern looking. One thing I did miss about the g3 tegs though, was the panoramic view and the low seating position. I remember it feeling very sporty compared with the RSX, which feels more grand-touring.
Lastly, in terms of upgrade potential, with basic bolt-on's, the RSX puts down roughly 145-160whp. WIth the same mods, the gsr puts down a few more ponies, but nothing to lose sleep over. Both cars can run 14's after bolt-ons (high 14's/low 15's for the rsx and mid-high 14's for the gsr). If you want more serious n/a mods though, the gsr easily has the larger aftermarket.
In terms of turbo'ing, Cybernation's rsx/ep3 puts down 240whp at 7psi... comparable to what a gsr at 7psi would put down. In a recent magazine a read, a Cybernation base rsx AUTO put down 313whp, so the potential is there.
So, there you have it. A comparison of the two cars from someone who's owned them both. Both are great cars. It all boils down to what your personal preferences are.
