Can't get the BOV to change sound.....
I have a Greddy bov and im having trouble changing the sound....i cant find the right allen wrench i guess...? anyone else have this problem? the thing just wont turn either way!
hey ricearoni....... BOVs have a purpose........ sound isn't it.......the screw on top alows adjustment so it stays closed at idle etc.
in fact you don't even need one!!! yea thats right its just something the aftermarket did and **** caught on...... look at most race cars.... no BOV's there....prolly not a bad idea on a street car though... for reliabilites sake........

no BOV? on race cars?.. i guess them renaming it as pressure relief valve.. got to you,or purge valve.. theres a purpose for BOV.. even stock eclipse has them, semi's.. theres soemthing that turbos do if they dont have BOV's,
" compressor surge" its not healthy for the turbo.. something you dont want..

You could.. technically change the sound by putting something on the vent off the BOV. A friend of mine put a duck call whistle and strapped it on the stock BOV on his 94 Twin Turbo RX-7.
Everytime his BOV went off, there was this loud "QUAAAAACK!!! QUAAAAAACK!!" sound all the time.....
Pretty damn funny.
Maybe you could strap a Kazoo on it or something.
But.. What I'm saying.. is.. taht's the only way you could acutally change the sound.

keep it clean. the type s is chirpy enough already. if ur adjusting tension via the top screw, have u loosened the locknut before u turn the top part?
Turbo John Burris a 40 veteran to the turbo car told me himself you don't need BOV's....... look at some of the H/R class cars.... no BOV's on many of them...... you don't need it FOR RACING...... on the street they aren't a bad idea due to the length of time the car is driven and the constant boost/no boost crossover.....if you really want to change the sound that bad..... put something over the front of it.....to make the opening smaller...... should make it higher pitched

Thats is because compressor surge does not occour on a car that has no lift of the throttle during shifts, or other stops (stop lights) There is no need for it. Allso after an evant most teams tear everything appart, inspect and rebuild/replace worn parts. On a street car, it is good insurance

most racecars get rebuilt after every race anyway, which means replacement of a lot of parts, so I don't think there would be enough time for the abscence of a blowoff valve to cause too much damage.
Compressor surge does sound cool though..
(i'm not kidding, it really does!)

yeah, most of those cars don't lift off of the throttle anyway. And usually the HR cars are automatic trans. No need to lift off of the throttle, therefore no need for a bov.

I HONESTLY do want to try out a Duck call on my bov , I just want to hear what it sounds like. It's gotta be worth the laugh.
My Blitz BOV right now flutters.. Kind of like..
"(on Throttle- "RRRRRRRrrrrrrrr"....( Let go throttle): Pssssssh! SSSssss! Ssssh!
So I guess the Duck call would like .
"RRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrr .... QUACK!!!! QUACK!!! .... QUAAAAAAACK!!!"
Dude... I can't wait to try this.... I'll record it if I can!
