another accord losing oil post
hey my 94 vtec accord eats alot of oil. every 2000 miles i have to add mo oil.not sure where it leaks or if it is leaking but no sign of leakage. have not checked on the recall on the oil seal retainer but should. stock motor and most of the time i do not redline alot. any body know what is the problem.
Well, you said there's no leakage, but have you checked:
- Around the valve cover gasket
- Around the distributor
- Around the bottom of the engine (oil pan etc)
- Around the timing belt covers
- Around the flywheel (rear main oil seal)
Park it somewhere, run it for a bit at idle, and then shut it off and leave it. See if any oil drips, or if you can spot a leak.
If there are no leaks for certain, then you're either burning oil or losing oil into the coolant. Check your coolant reservoir, see if it's milky or streaky. If so, you may have a blown headgasket and/or warped head, which would normally only occur if you really overheated the car once.
If you're burning oil, it's likely coming from the valve guide seals or the piston rings. Do you have obvious smoke coming out of the exhaust? Then you're likely burning oil. Get a compression test done and check the results. If all the chambers come out bad or if one is particularly lower than the others, it's likely a ring or two. If the compression is good across the board, then it's likely the valve guide seals.
Hopefully others can fill in what I missed, or if I screwed something up
Just FYI, my Accord is either burning or leaking some oil as well, but it's not as severe as yours. I did have two severe oil leaks: One from around the timing belt cover (the seals in that area ate themselves it appears, the previous owner really sucked at maintaining my car) and one cracked oil pan. The oil pan leak was obvious, the timing belt one was not.

'94, must be pretty high mileage. How many quarts do you add? On a motor that old, as long as your burning under a quart per 3K miles, you're okay.

A quart every 1000 miles is ok.

I had an old Civic that used a quart every 500 miles, no leaks at all.
