Broken head stud and mini me
i am helping my friend do a mini me swap on his 90 Civic STD....
we got all nesesarry parts.. search engine here helped a lot... and my knowledge also....
anyways we have some questions....
his friend removed the head last week.. and while taking it out he broke one of the head bolts... like the 1.5" of the tip of the bolt....
our questions its what ways are there to clean that thread besides taping...
we consider taping very hard to do so... since we dont wanna dril sideways and mess something up.. and we trying to avoid taking the block and tranny out since his car its on his driveway...
also what timing belt should he use for the D15B block and Z6 head?
the 92-95 Civic VX T belt??????

I tried using a VX timing belt on my mini-me (D15B2/Z6 head), but it seemed too short and I couldn't get it on. I tried a Z6 belt and it worked, a little tight, but it went on. Also, if you don't already know, you'll be 1/2 a tooth off when you line everything up. As for the stud, sorry I don't really know what the best route would be.
Taping??? You mean tapping.
Is the tip still in the threaded hole? If so, gotta ez out that piece, or use a tiny drill to break it apart, then use a magnet to suck it up. Your friend seems to like to break things.
t-belt: gotta use whatever the head is.

I would try and easy out, it that fails, get whats called a Helicoil. They arent cheap, but work very well (dont ask how I know,
lol ) Anyways, you have to drill the hole again, rethread it, then you screw in your helicoil. Supposedly they are stronger then aluminum that is used for the orig. thread. Mine seems to have worked well on my BRAND NEW sk2 IM that I stupidly broke a bolt in.
Good luck.

Dont helicoil. Helicoil is good for bolts that wont get hot. When things get helicoiled they tend to break when under a lot of heat. The only things on a Honda that I would helicoil is maybe a tranny bolt. Other than that dont do it. I bought a ZC, complete block head was off it, put it together, and guess what, the threads between 2 and 3 towards the IM was heli coil, blew a head gasket because the helicoil got too hot broke into peices, i traded the complete motor for a DX tranny to Redbaron, with a freshly rebuilt head...

Yeah, I used an adjustable cam gear to get the timing back to 0. I can't remember which way it needed to be adjusted to get it there. I'll take a look at my motor in the morning and let you know.
