Has anybody patched a hole on their tire???
I just noticed a pin size hole on my rear tire. It's right on the top of the tire. Has anybody ever heard of patching tires on a bike? Is it safe? Inputs please. Thanks.
I'd be alright with a radial patch for that hole. Especially since its pin sized and right in the middle of the tread. Is it on a block of tread or in a groove?
The hole is right on the top and it's on a block of tread, not a groove or anything. Can they patch it from the outside or would they have to dismount the tire? You think any tire shop can do this or do I have to go to a motorcycle shop?
Ick I would not ride on a patched tire. The patch might actually work and hold air, but there will be a higher risk of a blow-out. Not worth wreaking over IMO.
No plugging please! I only mentioned a radial patch which is inserted inside the tire. Take it to a shop for an estimate. If its a pinhole like you say, then plugging it would make the hole bigger before sealing it. I would never ride on a plugged motorcycle tire. The patch I wouldn't mind since its in the middle and nowhere near the sidewall. Course rebalance the wheel/tire after the whole deal
