Default How to remove rusted Rear lower strut mount bolt on 98 GS?

Well I am helping my friend put in new shocks and springs, and I got the front all done, but this is the first Honda I have had problems with. His drivers side rear lower strut mounting bolt is seized in and is I can feel that it is going to snap off. So can some one tell me the best way to get it out? Should I drill it out or what. I soaked it good with yield, the head is moving, but the threads of the bolt aren't. So please someone that has had this same type of question help me out. Also sorry for making such a long *** post. Well any help would be nice. Thanks, Jordan.

The same problem happened to me, only the head of the bolt snapped off.. The only way I was able to get it out was to take a Circular Air Saw and cut the bolt out where the fork of the shock and the control arm met. Right in between there, there was enough space to fit the saw in and cut the bolt. Thus releasing the shock. From there I had to Air Hammer the bushing out and press a new one in.. It's not too hard of a job. But that's just what my instructor had me do. Good luck with whatever you try.. Later..

yeah, i had the same problem when i tried to replace my springs, the bolts were siezed, i tried breaker bar, impact guns, penetrating oil, nothing worked, eventually had to take it to a shop and have them break the bolt and put new bolts/bushings in.

I had the same problem with my 94 LS.The head of the bolt broke off on mine also and I had to take the LCA off and take it to a machine shop so they could press it out.

Well guys thanks for all your help and advice! Well I talked to a shop and they told me the same thing that one of you guys said. They said that I will need to buy a new bolt and bushing, then I am going to us a die-grinder and cut the nut that is spot welded to the shock fork and the bolt so that no threads are still holding it, and then use an air chisel with the right attachment and hammer it out and then take the bushing out and I will then press the new bushing in using the old socket trick. Well thanks again hopefully this will work this time. Thanks again, Jordan.
