Default what do you think about a itr powered crx?

i am thinking about putting a jdm spec b18c5 in a 88 crx. the power to weight ratio is very good. the engine is modified a little with a aem cold air intake, 240cc injectors, edelbrock intake manifold and 65mm throttle body, crower cams, crower valve springs and retainers, custom 2.5" exhaust, pulleys, dc sport header, and ecu up grade.

So what do u think

I think its worth it.

How much are you getting the engine for? If I were you I would just buy the block and maybe convert it over to OBD-1. When people buy and ITR swap they usually buy everything including the transmission and all the extras. The only thing you can use is the Engine. Transmission wont go in, ECU wont work, axles ....
I bought mine with my car and I have had it for 2 years now. It is running great and has never given me any problems besides what I have cause. Some people argue that you can build a b20vtec and it would come out cheaper, but I dont think it is better. Again its all in who you talk too. You CAN build ANYTHING to be better, but how much trouble do you want to go through.

If you've got the dough then it might be worth it. IMO a B18C1 is a better platform b/c I would end up changing out cams, and pistons & what not anyway, and as stated teh ECU/Tranny/Axles wouldn't be going in your ride, as far as teh IM you could buy aftermarket. It seems to be more cost effective to start w/ a GSR motor to build then start w/ a Type R motor to build b/c ultimately if you really plan on tuning the car you will be taking everything off that makes it a B18C5 in the first place. Just MHO

Good swap. Sure you can build a B20 vtec or turbo a B16 or something along those lines for the same price. The difference is RELIABILITY. You B18C5 puts down some great numbers without any mods and it's built to last a LONG time.

i can get the engine, transmition, ecu, axles, every thing pretty much except for mount for $2500 thats no bad if you ask me. thats not put in the car i'm gonna do that my self. but i gonna take it somewhere to get it wired. it runs good and everything the guy had it in a 93 civic 2 door it ran a 12.89 in the 1/4 mile. but since my car is a little litter it might run a 12.5 depending on me the driver.

$2500 is far too cheap for a B18C5 swap. There is something wrong here.
Be careful.

im still wondering why the top end would be built the way it is......... the intake manifold from the c5 is nearly the same as the edelbrock........ it already comes ready to handle almost 9k in revs. sounds weird to me

No more LSD and long gears, you just took the pep out of the R.

I'm glad this topic came up, I'm considering the JDM Integra Type R swap into my CRX. I've not extensively researched it, but I read it puts out 210 hp which I think is awesome for a stock motor. But the GS-R puts out 180 hp, and costs $3k less.

I guess my question is, what makes the Type R so great compared to the GS-R? It doesn't seem like 30 hp is worth that $3k. Does the Type R motor come with headwork done from the factory? Better pistons or cams?

Is there a detailed website with the comparison of the JDM Integra Type R motor versus the GS-R motor? Thanks.

i think its worth the money but if money is an issue with you than i would go with the gsr

Yeah, go for the GSR.
The type R is only if you either have the money or find a really good deal.

buy a b16a for $1200, then buy CTR pistons and cams, and voila, a B16B for half the price. 185 hp is pretty good.

CTR cams and pistons don't make a B16A in to a B16B.

I thought the C5 was an 11:1 compression. ???? Anyone verify this?
