1/4 mile ownz me!!
Well I went to the track 2 weeks ago, and I finally realize that I SUCK.
Any suggestions
I have got AEM CAI, Greddy header, Greddy Evo, Unorthodox SS, Cam gears, NGK wires, Denso plugs.
My car makes 165whp and 126ft/lbs on a dynojet 248c.
My tires 205/50/15 Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position SO-3's, though camber in the front wheels is about 2.5 degrees w/ driver.
My best time is as follows:
15.56 @ 90.2mph
60' 2.4
I have tried launching at all types of RPM's 2000, 3000, 4000 and the higher I go, the worse it seems to be. I don't get wheelspin, only wheelhop, wheelhop sooo bad that my winshield wipers bounce up and down, after that I said no more high launches. On that day it was in the high 80degrees and relativly high humidity, but I try not to make excuses for myself.
Any ideas?

Wheelhop bites. Either work on better shocks and springs, or get motor mount inserts or better yet, Go jim fab traction bar. There is a group buy going on right now. 270 shipped i think. Jim fab sells them off his site for 300 plus shipping, so its an excellent deal.
I would love to do that, but I have this scenario in which I am way more of an autoxer than a drag racer. Anything I do to the front end would seem to mess up my balance. I need the rear to swing around, and to be able to do that, at the current time all I have to do is lift. Motormounts would take away my ability to do this and all other types of traction products I could use for the front would more or less help my car to push, which would not help me become more competitive.
If it makes you feal any better my first time at the track I ran a 16.9, but in my defence that was totaly stock and my first run. my rec. time was decent at .78 I think...

Or lower your tire pressure. Usually solves the dreaded wheel hop. Some tires (azenis) have such a stiff side wall it doesn't matter if you deflate them, it might still hop.

I would say lower tire preasure or new tires/ slicks if you want to get serious.
Integra wheel hop is pretty good IMO. I went on a 1/4 run in my friends new EP. It had motor mounts and that bish hopped like a frog!
no traction =

Well I think your problem it the 60'. Here is my explanation why...
I ran a 2.4 60' with 17" rims and aem intake. Please correct me if I am wrong but a GSR with good driver should be around 2.2-2.3 60' time to get a low 15 high 14 second time. I think wheelhop is a direct result of "Dropping the clutch" or just letting off right away. You should try to let the clutch out slower so that it is not spinning or hopping but grabbing. That may not be the best explanation of "feathering the clutch" but i tried.
If you fix your 60' time that will also raise your trap speed and you will get lower and lower!!!
On a side note: Reaction time has noting to do with a solo 1/4 mile time! The only time reaction time matters is when you are racing the person beside you!
I would say also lower the tire pressure and just try different things in order to lower that 60' time.
I am no expert by any means so please anyone with more info chime in!!!

IMHO, really some people just dont drive well at the track. Not saying they dont drive well at all. Just not at the track.
Just that they get really nervous and ****. I'm not making any asumption that anyone here is like this. I'm just saying that it's pretty common.
Hell, you got tons of people watching you, then if it's your first time at the strip, you might not know how to stage correctly. Resulting in crapy reaction times and horrible 60'.

I agree, I figured my 60' time just needs to be down, I need to practice slipping the clutch if i wanna get good and I realize that as it seems to be the way to go.
But I would like to say what a good post, I appriciate the comments, most people don't take the time to speak in such a manner, not trying to degrade any one elses comments but your are very good and taken to heart.
I just get so nervous about getting a good light that I don't think about slipping the clutch. All I do is play with the reaction time with my foot, when I see the second yellow I drop and that is my problem. More time may cure in the end. I don't want to become a quarter mile junkie, I just know that my car is way faster than I am driving it as the dynoes should prove and I want to be able to back it up at the track.

I need some damn GSR swirleys!!! 17" just plain suck!!!

first time running my 98 gsr at 100% stock ... with stock rubber i ran a 15.35 @ 94.5 mph.... this what u have to do... u cant just drop the cluth... u have to ride it untill u dont feel your car starting to move ... just ride it at friction point... i usuallu launch at 3700 rpm casue my rubber sucks.. but i think that u shouldnt go any higher then 4 anyways... also.. make sure ure not hitting your rev limiter for some reason... i try and shift at 8000 (start of my red line) or just under it becasue my peak power and torque is at 7200 rpm and then u start to decline after that.... so this way when i shift i drop to 6500 rpm and im still hitting my peak in next gear... also... when shifting.. dont power shift or ull mess up your tranny/head gasket/o rings .. really badly... hope that helps... peace from the 604...
