kinda off topic. but really important to stop Type R theft...
This is totally just a question and not calling anyone a thief...
I helped my buddy get a front end from a fellow HT member, it was a 98 CW Type R front end. He went a picked it up and asked me because of the price being really good if it was stolen. I told him that it better not be because I dont deal with that stuff and I dont tolerate thieves. My question is how do I check to make sure the VINS are legit?
thanks

VIN numbers on a front end? I don't believe they're stamped anywhere there, just on the firewall, engine bay, engine, and dash (I think).
They should still have the little vin stickers on them, unless he removed them...call your local police and check the numbers with them. If they are actually stolen, then he'll probably have removed them...
Though, that's not to say that they were just removed so he doesn't have any one else sporting his VIN numbers. When I sold all my parts when I did the JDM conversion, I pulled all mine off...

the vin number most likely will not be there. if they are oem original parts the vin numbers will be on the fenders and bumper.
however, most places, even salvage yards will yank off the vin tags. they're very small white tags with the vin's in greyish letters/numbers.

Thanks for the response, my friend spoke with the guy he bought the front end from. The vin's where still intact and fully visable. The seller even called and spoke with my buddy who bought the front end. the seller was JDMparts4u2 Gets A HUGE thumbs UP
... I called CHP and they were the ones who told me basically the vehicle history on the car, IE: if the car had been stolen or totalled... Thanks guys for the info.

there are vin numbers on almost every body panel.
doors, trunk, fenders, hood. everwhere. but they can be easily removed and tampered with. All it is is a little sticker.

every car that is in the US are required to have Vin numbers on every part of the car. It is mainly for accident detection but also theft.
My JDM radiator support came with a little Blue DC2-R vin plate on it, but if there were, I didn't notice anything other than that. But yeah, my US pannels had vins on just about everything.
