Default Should I go for it?

I am getting real close to purchasing a year 2000 S, and was wondering if the price of $24,000 seemed reasonable to everyone. The car has 7,000 miles, is red w/ black interior and is very nice condition. Is this amount of money worth it. I live in Ohio by the way. Thanks

i am looking into the same thing. not the exact same car, but a 2000 or 2001 s with low miles. i checked kbb.com and the list blue book on those are ~21000. the owner may argue against going that low, but you may be able to talk him/her down. i am trying to find one for about 22k with under 15k miles

I know the KBB value is significantly lower that the 24k this guy is asking but as i look around I don't see any that are at, or even really near KBB fair value.

Surprisingly, S2k's do not hold their value very well. That asking price is a bit much for that year. Go http://www.autotrader.com and you'll see that they can be had for quite a bit less. Also, don't forget to haggle with the price.

In the same boat.

If you can save a bit more cash, or stretch out your budget go for a 2002.

Lots of changes and less bugs.

Thanks for the help, you are right there are alot of bugs that year and changes made for 02 that should make the 00's worth less money. Funny thing is, the area im from you don't see too many of these cars and this dealership had this car at $26,900 I got them down to $24,000 after "they checked with the boss" So i don't know how much lower they would be going now. As for the changes you can do a search on here to find out, there are many, but only a few large changes, mostly aesthetics.

I've seen them as low $22k, but really I wouldn't expect them to go much lower, even with the new engine coming out. But then again, I bought mine at 26k and didn't expect it to go much lower. I remember when my friend bought a year old prelude for $20k.. how can the s2000 drop to that??

Changes for 02: (not sure if this is complete)

Glass rear windshield with defrost
Upgraded stereo
The console is vinyl instead of carpet
Taillights slightly different

Anything else major?

check out http://www.s2ki.com for S2000's. They have some going for around 20K with decent mileage.

al those plus:
improved transmission
new oil bolts
supposedly fixed the #4 cylinder problem
darket tinted wheels(more bronze)
softened rear suspension and tweaked sway bars to reduce snap oversteer and offers better handling than older models
new ecu supposedly adds 5whp compared to older model(02/03 has different ECU part#)
silver accents in interior
different shiftknob
silver-faced headunit, old ones were black
tweeters mounted on doors
aluminum dead pedal

in your guys' opinion, do the changes in an 02 justify the approx. $4k prince difference between 00 and 02?

what was the #4 cylinder problem?
what did they improve about the trans?

yeah.

#4 cylinder : i think it had to do with the cylinder not being lubricated properly(oil starvation)
transmission: they replaced a couple syncrhos to reduce grinding, even though some people still grind. but its still a better transmission then the older ones.
oh yeah, they also replaced teh clutch disk which makes no rattling when deaccelerating at any rpm(like the older ones did).

****, the glass windshield is enough for me. I hate the carpeted console also, even though its a quick fix with Ricks accesories.
