performance tires
im going to get getting konig heliums 15 x 6.5's and i wanted to ask what i should wrap them in.. i heard ecsta supras were good .. but then someone told me they are real noisy..

I see the word performance not competition in his question. I've got Ecsta MX tires now, replacing Kuhmo 712's and they have lots more grip and only a little more noise. They are a bit behind Azenis on grip but are a little quieter and are actually available for purchase. I find they are a little lumpy when cold for a mile or two.

ok fine.. all i wanted was to know was:
what a good tire was for wet dry traction so i could tear up some jug handles and corners.. and not worry about it being all that loud..
i guess that doesnt fall under the category of road racing/autocross.. mayby ill go look in the audio/security board..
now having stated your opionion i can see this is the wrong place to ask about tires.. ill go look elsewhere for knowledge.. thank you mohud you helped me some!

It's the right place to ask about tires for the track. It's the wrong place to ask about tires for the street.
IBTL.

Most people here will recommend Azenis, but I would not bet on finding them readily available. I'd bet the majority do not use them on their street cars or even autox or drivers school cars for street use. So a bunch of people who know something about driving at the limit must use something else on the street at lower levels of abuse. It seems reasonable to ask what those tires might be. And of street tires I have used recently, the Ecsta MX is the best. But I only have about 3000 miles on them so I can't tell you how they work in the long run.
My last 2 sets of street tires have been Azenis... they're great in the dry and ok in the wet as long as there's a decent amount of tread depth left. They're noisy as hell and from what I've heard they suck in snow.
It sounds like maybe the Kumho MX would be more in line with your intentions for a "performance" tire for the street than the (wonderful, imo, and fine for the street) Azenis.

I've always bought mine from Discount Tire Direct (www.tires.com) and haven't had any delivery problems. Vulcan Tire Company (www.vulcantire.com) also carries them... they both have fairly similar pricing and availability.

If you were getting 16x7 wheels I would have suggested BFGoodrich T/A KDW's hands down for Dry and Wet performance. Even when autocrossing - they are very quiet at the limit. Unfortunately the smallest diameter they come in is 16". I do think the Falken Azenis aren't too much louder than the KDW's, plus they have more dry grip and come in 15" diameter sizes...

Falken AZENIS too loud??? No way!! Try running the Yokohama A-032R's. Now that's a LOUD tire!! I've used Azenis last season and stepped up to the Yokos this season.
The only drawback to the A-032R's is they are about double, maybe triple the cost of the Azenis, and they are loud. Otherwise they are Awesome for track use.
Ive noticed the Azenis tend to feel "greasy" and lose their grip when they become really hot.
Who here has tried the Victor Racers? Any feedback?

I've run the Azenis and Victo's for autoX and HPDE's...
For HPDE's the Azenis, imo, are very good for a street tire but ultimately they're still street tires (i.e. they get greasy as you mentioned and can howl at high slip angles). The Victo's have substanitally better grip, don't fade out when they get hot, and are quiter in general on the race track. I think that in some ways the Victo's are easier to drive at HPDE's just b/c they maintain more consitent grip than the Azenis do after they've got some heat in them. Breakaway characteristics for both tires are smooth and slow enough that you can catch a slide before it happens as long as you're paying close attention to what you and the car are doing.
For autoX the Victo's have a much sharper turn in and general feel along with more grip than the Azenis. Of course they cost substantially more too

I didn't say anything about the Azenis being a loud tire. I was mentioning how quiet the KDW's are at the limits compared to Azenis...
I'm thinking of going with Azenis for the tacoma when it's time to replace the BFG KDW's.

To the original post: Get some Kumho MX tires and be done with it. Good in wet/dry and if they're too loud get used to it.
I wasn't going to post originally but after seeing people compare A-032R and VictoRacers to Azenis I just had to say that's comparing apples and oranges.
Azenis are a street tire made for daily driving where as A-032R and VictoRacers are race tires and are not intended for daily driving.

You may want to look into the Yoko ES100. Good tire for the price, good dry grip, excellent wet grip. Not too noisey, but I've never been concerned about the noise, personally. I use Azenis as a competition tire and the ES100 as my daily driver. I'd buy the ES100 again.
