4 speaker subless system that slams?
ok maybe slam was an over statement.... i am just looking for the best sound i can get out of four 6.5 speakers... they can be components.
right now i have a 3 way focal 165k3 set up front and a focal 136k in the rear and it is incredible!!! power bya soundstrea rubicon 604.. it i hada better amp im sure it ould be even better!
How much are you looking to spend? Focal's are really nice like they said above, but also depending on how much you wanna spend, check out Infinity Kappa's, you can get a pair of 6.5's for around $85 shipped, and they sound really nice off deck power, even better off amp power.

Well first of all get a new headunit!!! Is that $1000 for just speakers or an amp too? I like my Boston Pro 6.5 (good bass low distortion) but have you considered the JL microsub? 6.5" for a sub that sounds pretty good. Also Bostons new speaker the Z series is badass!

i have a crx and my last experience with a sub in a crx is that it gave me more bass than i needed and the thing was always in the way.plus i am trying to keep weight down so as few components as posible is what i am lookin for. would micro subs be ok in the stock mounting positions of the crx? or would they make that whole panel rattle maybe?
thanks for all the comments so far!

subs there wouldn't be a good idea.
Now, if it was me, I'd do the following:
Go get a middle of the road Alpine head unit.
Then get a nice 50 x 4 amp
Grab a set of good components for the front doors
then get a single 8" sub and put it in a tiny sealed box
no back speakers
The sub would add 20 lbs at the most and would sound about 10x better then you could do with just 4 6" speakers...

save money and weight.
the 4 x 50, you would use 2 channels for the fronts and bridge the rears for the sub.
no rear speakers ~ less components = less weight
realistic affect of it is that you wont have any rear fill other than your hatch mounted sub which, to me, sounds like ***. Either get a 5 channel amp or get a 4 channel and a mono for the sub if you want one.

Better question to ask is: "why use rear speakers?"
They do absolutely nothing to enhance the reproduction of music, so why use them. Ask yourself - have you ever sat in the back seat to drive (hell it's a CRX there is no back seat)? Probably not. Have you ever gone to a concert and decided to turn your back to the stage? Again probably not, so why have speakers behind you?
Then ask yourself, why pay for speakers in teh back of your car that doesn't really help out the sound much, when you can add a small subwoofer that will allow you to actually cover the whole audible spectrum?
It simply makes no sense (ESPECIALLY in a two seater) to have rear speakers.
Take a look at all the good SQ cars out there, virtually none of them will have rear speakers in them - you simply don't need them....there is no surround sound in audio right now....sure DVD audio, etc, but music is recorded in 2 channel, not 4 channel.

thanks for the info..
i seem to remember liking it better with rear speakers when i had my other crx. but it could have been in my head i guess.
so will any component 6.5" speakers due? i think i may shoot for a 2 channel and a mono as far as amps go.. suggestions?
also heres a real question.. does anyone make a "stealth" type sub box for the crx?
the main reason i didn't want a sub is because in my last car the stupid thing took up half my already small trunk.
thoughts all all ages welcome.....

your not going to get a verry good sounding system without a sub. It dosent have to be pumping out alot of power but its what gives your system your low freq, and with out it you dont get all the ranges of sound that is required for a good, or even an ok system.

Very good points...In my SQ Civic I only had front speakers and a single 12" sub... I was very happy with the performance of that setup.
However...With my recent purchase of the Integra I was quite happy to have rear fill again. I say why not just leave the rear speakers stock, get a 4 channel amp, power fronts and sub off the amp and power rears off the deck to provide fill. Just my $.02

How can an SQ car win if it doesnt have rear fill? Maybe its just me but part of a good sounding system is that you have even coverage of music from all over. Considering your fronts are at your foot's level, and cover only about half your ear, if not less, I would immagine that rear fill would be an important integral of a good sounding system. I guess SQ are just judged differently, have never been to an SQ Competition.
If I have a good set of focal components up front, alpine components set for the rears (without installing the tweets since they are currently in my doors now), and an IDQ 10" in the back. I would like to get some good amps to have good quality, clean sound.

How many live concerts have speakers behind the listeners? Do you go to a symphony and face the back? Do home stereos have 4 channels so that you get full range all around?
Guess the answer to these questions, and tell me why you need rear speakers. I have my own theory to why cars have so many speakers, but it is not for imaging or sq. If you have sufficient power you will not miss anything.

I like having rear fill even though I know it is not supposed to be there. My current car doesn't need any rear fill though. It already sounds like I am sitting on top of the music. I always tell people to buy what they like not what they are told to like.
