Default Questions about building a block... (b18c1)

Hey first off i want to say that i have searched through a lot of threads but havnt found the answers that I have been looking for. So here we go...

I wanted to get some ideas on how i should build my block. I want to do it right the first time and wanted to get opinions on what you guys would do, or have already done. If you have done a build resulting in something similar to what i am aiming for then please give me some information on your set-up. Basically I want to see what you did with your set-up and what you could have done better, so that I can learn from other peoples experiences. Thanks

First off my goals....
1. 190-200whp daily driven GSR
2. Best Reliability possible
3. Naturally Aspirated

I plan on using spoon balanced JDM ITR pistons so compression will be around 11.4:1, and for the time being I will be running ITR camshafts (which will be upgraded to more aggressive cams after i build the block, and complete some other mods that im planning)

questions....
1. Will my stock GSR rods be able to handle 200 whp reliably or should i upgrade them?
2. What are pros and cons to oversized pistons? (81 vs 81.25)
3. What else should i do while i have pistons (and possibly rods installed) to make sure that this block will be reliable? (blockguard? arp headstuds? etc.)
4. Are there any on-line sources that would help me or answer my questions?

Also do you have any other advice for me before I start out on this journey?

By the way, i have a 95 (obd1) integra GSR with almost 100k miles on it and at its last service (the big 90k tune up) compression was tested and the block is in great shape.

1) they will do just fine
2) pro: more displacement
con: you can allways take material off but you cant put it back on. if going a custom bore, you need custom pistons. but if your gonna use 81.25 you can use i think eather oversized ITR & CTR pistons.
3)ARP rod bolts, ARP head studs, and your stock block girdle is enough.

advice: Get rid of that damn GSR intake manifold!

Yeah a skunk2 manifold will be replacing it soon enough.

thanks for the input, anyone else? Would 81.25 bore really make that much of a difference over stock 81? Cause if im gonna bore it i might as well go with a bigger bore with custom pistons.

ITR pistons and cams will work fine for what you are looking for. I was running a stock b18c5 block with ITR cams, ported head, and JDM ITR header and it made 205whp.
Good Luck

the 81.25 is not so much gaining displacment but more to ensure your rings seal good and it gets rid of any sscoring that may have occured on the cylinder walls

Tell me more! I like the idea of sticking with the ITR cams (cant beat honda quality and reliability) What compression were you running? And how did you extract all that power from the block? Also id be interested in seeing a dyno graph if you have one (where was your tourqe at?), thanks

oh and were you running hondata or vafc etc?

i would recommend oversized (81.25mm) ctr pistons, ITR rods and bore the sleeves out to taylor the oversized ring gap ... figure 100k mile walls are worn ...

there are tons of mods to choose from, the simplest being the header (jdm 4-1), skunk2 intake manifold and ecu upgrade with some Toda spec A or B cams and valvetrain upgraded. Have the head cleaned and change your vlave seals. Put some ITR intake valves in there and have the seats cut for your gsr head.

Not sure on exact compression, but it was a stock u.s. itr block. DPR ported GSR head, stock headgasket. ITR cams, & header as I mentioned above, & skunk2 manifold. I believe that it had like 139-140 torque.
VAFC, adj. cam gears and fpr for tuning. I have the sheet somwhere, I will try and find it and post it up.
