Default Oil additives

Just purchased a 1999 Accord EX (4cyl) Sedan. In my previous 1988 Accord LX, I used an oil additive Duralube... every 50K miles or so... got 275k miles out of it (in fact, engine still ran like a sewing machine when I sold it). Are these additives a waste of money or do they really protect? Just a newbie

Oil additives are a waste of your money. Modern motor oils have everything in them you need to protect your vehicle. Additives can upset the oil's chemical balance and cause more harm than good. Keep up the maintenance and change your oil regularly and you'll do just fine.
