it's the sohc, it's still a vtec engine it just isn't the b16. the actual title of the b16 del sol is vtec even though the engine in the si is also a vtec engine. The one your looking at is the SOHC though, I have an SI sitting in my driveway.

The si badging is different in ontario than california it still could be a b16.

couldnt he just check the engine code on the engine itself? also check the redline, the si d16z6 has a 7200 redline, the b16 has a 8200 (something like that) redline.

if the badging says "dohc vtec" on the side and the rear trunk, then it's the b16. but you cant just base it on that cuz sometimes ppl take the badging off.

Check the block and/or the VIN. The Si SOHC will have "EH6" and the VTEC DOHC will have "EG2."

SI = 1.6L sohc!
VTEC = 1.6L dohc!

ALL YEARs!

Close, but not quite. Let's try again with the S.

S = 1.5L SOHC (93-95), 1.6L SOHC (96+)
Si = 1.6L SOHC VTEC (all years)
VTEC = 1.6L DOHC VTEC (all years)

in Canada the civic model names are different but not Del Sol. If it is an SI and it hasn't had a swap then it's a D16Z6.

Or a D16Y8 if it's a '96 or '97.

Close, but not quite. Let's try again with the S.

S = 1.5L SOHC (93-95), 1.6L SOHC (96+)
Si = 1.6L SOHC VTEC (all years)

_______

Closer but not 100%
93 there was no DOHC VTEC
so 94-97 DOHC

</TD></TR></TABLE>

Obviously, I meant "all years in which a del Sol VTEC existed." After all, there was no Si in, say, 1776 either. Doesn't make sense to talk about the engine in a car that doesn't exist!
